so i fried my chip a few weeks back by forget to put a heatsink on... after a few weeks i saw a frys special for the 2000+ and an ecs board.. so i go and get it cause its a great price.. well now i have the board all screwed in, and realize the dam ecs board has no holes for my alpha pal 8045... SO i need a replacement that uses brackets and has comparable results to my alpha pal, and must also use a 80 mm fan.. i cant stand anything else... any ideas? its been a while since ive needed to look at heatsinks since i love my pal 8045 so im complety out of the "loop"

Thanks

Most Fry's ECS combos are with the k7s5a... did you get something else? The k7s5a has the mounting holes around the socket. If you like the pins-over-copper-block heatsink design, go with a swiftech. You should be able to continue using the same fan, and Fry's even carries the 370. Yay! Happy day!

Otherwise... typical answer... thermalright sk7, 800'ish... blahblah yawn... Swiftech gets the Good Housekeeping seal of approval. They are easily the prettiest heatsink on the market, plus they cool very well! Happy day!

Any of the Thermalright SK or SLK clip on line should work nicely for you, or a swiftech if you prefer. If you check the heatsink ratings on the front, I believe that the SLK-800/900s have the top performance, if that's what you want :)

Almost all the new frys combos come with the k7s5a PRO. Unlike the original boards it does not have the heatsink mounting holes. This is because they changed the board layout (removed gameport and a serial port and added 4 usb2 ports )

See... I've heard people mention that, but every k7s5a (3 different colors) I've seen has the holes. I guess I haven't seen the pro one yet =/

ECS shows the purple k7s5a-p to have holes...

and like... every model before it.

and the original k7s5a...

My Fry's still has a lot of the 'g' models and still has promotions to get rid of them =p. But apparently, Ozzman has the pro, so he needs to go with a swiftech heatsink ^_^.

I personally wouldnt buy a Thermalright heatsink, all 3 I have bought in the past year have had grooves in the base, I would get a MCX 370 is it (the one that uses clips) or possibly a Thermalright Sk-7 though be prepared to Lap it.
