im looking for a new card... im selling my current system with my ti4200 128mb card, and i want to upgrade, if only slightly. im looking to spend about $150, nvidia or ati, it doesnt matter which. dx9 would be nice, too. overclocking is a must. any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Wait. Really. The cheapest meaningful upgrade for you would be a radeon 9700 np, and a 9800 np would be the 'smart' upgrade. Buy any lesser card and you're likely to see marginal bumps in some performance, and marginal losses in other performance. The 9800 np goes for something like $230- $250. I'd recommend going for an overclock of your current card or buying a new Athlon XP nforce mobo with your cash.
According to this thread, (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=224988) you can get a mad overclocking mobo+AMD CPU for about $150. You still might need to buy some memory though...
I'd ditch the celeron though. ick. ;)

i am ditching the cellie... im gettin a
p4 2.4 800fsb cpu, 1gb ddr 400 and a gigabyte mobo, but i still need a card...
You might see if you can get a $129 refurb 9700 pro from Compgeeks.com (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=225428), otherwise I'd wait for a 9800 np or a 9800 pro. Your 4200 is still a good card and will pretty much run any game on the market now. Maybe wait a couple of months and see what prices are on the 9700 and 9800 models.

damn why dont you just get a less amount of RAM say 512MB and use the extra $120 from that and get a 9800 Pro for around $300?

cause my ram only cost $100 for the entire 1gb (thank you internet), so there wouldnt be that extra $$. i really hate to pay retail for computer parts... it seems like its such a ripoff (maybe thats cause i dont have much $$, being 17 yrs old :) )... im currently looking online at a 9800 for maybe $100 shipped
