View Full Version : Dremel Speed Control
I just bought a single speed dremel today. I saw in the accessory book that they have a foot pedal speed control you can hook up to this single speed. Would a dimmer switch hooked up to it play the same role as this speed control since all it does to control the speed is alter the voltage?
Sure. Actually, it probably has a fancy assortment of transistors to do the job, as a simple rheostat would burn out instantly from the load. But it still works by varying the voltage. I have never actually seen a high-enough capacity rheostat to do this. If you could hook a light bulb dimmer to it, then that would probably work. Just check the rated wattage of the dimmer, and have a general knowledge of wiring and electricity. :)
