ok,... i got a 750 duron not overclocked at all. i got a alpha heatsink and fan... the new one i forgot the name of it... maybe 6035, somthing like that. the tep. is 174 F and it wont boot at all without three other fans blowing air right at it... i have fried a few durons on this mobo im not shure if that would afect in at all... ummm, it is a cheep biostar mobo but i never had a prob with my 700 duron with a g-orb on it so im not sure what is wrong... some incite on this would help Thanks Much!!!

That temp is way too high!(just so no one else has to convert it, it's almost 79°C!!!)
Well, I have no experience with a biostar board beyond returning one, but...
- Any way to tell what your voltage is set at? If possible, try lowering it a little at a time.
- Have you unlocked the Duron's L1 bridges? If you have, try cleaning them off(rubing alcohol or nail polish remover), a crossed bridge can cause lots of problems - I know firsthand.
- Try taking the HSF off and reseating it(carefully, so as not to chip that core). Then do it again, just to be sure.
Hopefully one of these ideas may help

the core is 1.66 v, i never did unlock the L1 and you cant change the volts or multiplyer on this mobo

Hmmm.... this is a little puzzling. You said you've 'fried a few durons' on this board already. How many? Were that all failures due to a high heat? If so, I'd consider taking the board back, if you still can. Or try RMA'ing directly to Biostar. It sounds like its not anything you're doing wrong.

wow! those are high temps. RMA the sucker. Also, are you using anything between the hsf and the cpu. Goop, tape, mayonaise(j/k :) ). You need something there. But this sounds like a mbo pumping some serious voltage into that socket. You could almost boild water.
I have 2 alpha 6035's. They are going on 2 years old,on a bp6 with dual celerons. I don't know if this is true of the one you have but on mine the clip doesn't have a lot of preasure and I don't think it would crush the 4 feet on an amd down enough to make good contact. The new ones have a stronger clip. also some of the alphas came with feet on the bottom if yours is like this that means you have 2 sets of feet, one on the heatsink and the ones on the chip. This will not give you good contact between h/s and cpu. Make sure you are using some thermal grease to!
A few things come to mind.
1. Are you sure that the hsf is sitting correctly on the proc? My temps went up by 10'C just by haveing the clip on sightly off center(it got bent funny).
2. Did you chip the core while you were putting the hsf on?(seems to be common nowadays)
3. Have you tried lapping the heatsink, and what kind of thermal paste are you using?

ok... i have no thermal gresse... none... i didnt put the pads on the hsf... i have the new socket-a clip... i did not chip THIS cpu... i cracked one cpu by putting a hsf on... chiped another trying to put a hsf on... im just going to get a new mobo i think thanks for aswering my Q.

No thermal grease? No wonder your temps are high! Don't put the pads on the hsf, as the chip already has them.

well i will get some thermal goop stuff, but i dont think it will change it enough... by the way what is a normal cpu temp if farenhight??
In degrees F, you want the max to be in the low 100's, I would say 110-120 at the most. If you keep it around there you shuold be all good.

What is your ambient? If you just have a really hot room (or maybe your box if over the heat duct) that could *really* help with the high temps. The hsf (which, admitedly, needs thermal paste) can only cool it to ambient...not terribly likely, but it absolutely can NOT go any further than that, without any outside assistance, of course.

I believe your MOBO has some kind of defect..
Those temps are way to hot...
Your CPU wonīt survive very long...
By the way..why donīt you get a decent MOBO..Like Abit or Asus..
They are worth their money..believe me.
And always use Arctic Silver or some other kind of thermal goop
