Is it just me or are there no good games?

I went to best buy and it just sucked, Not one good game.. I mean I saw some good oldies like starwars, and stuff.. but not one good new game worth my 50dollers? am I crazzy or are there no new good games out. I know there a bunch of AWSOME games im looking foward to.. but where have all the good games gone? where?.... are they there? no ... no...

I think you just need to know where to look ;) To me its almost impossible to say that there are good games that are going to come out. Maybe there are games I am looking forward to but most of the time they let me down. The good ones are the suprises.

I am exactly like DeathKnight.

For example, I bought UT2003 when it first came out. That was a HUGE HUGE letdown for me. I haven't played it in months. :(

BUT, I didnt really pay much attention to Battlefield 1942, because I had just looked at the early screenshots from an old build. THEN THE DEMO CAME OUT. I downloaded it, and saw something that changed my life forever. Not only was it a fps, but it was a flight arcade sim thingy, tank sim, all this other crap combined into one creamy package.
This one had the cream filling.


But, for the last few months, no good games have come out. I can see it now, that, while they are both looking good, Doom3 and HL2 WILL DISAPPOINT!

Yes, flame me all you want, but mark my words: HL2 and Doom3 WILL NOT be what they are cracked up to be.



Now its all about the money.

Well I am of the opinion that you should never go to a store looking for an unknown good game. Your research should have already shown you what game(s) to buy.

This summer has been very dry. The summer is always a slow time for game releases but it seems worse than usual this year. I suggest you grab any of the chart toppers from late last year, and early this year. I'm sure you didn't play them all.

And anyway don't worry.. Halo, Republic, Tron 2.0, Vietcong - First Alpha, BloodRayne, Homeworld 2, Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy, Chrome & Syberia 2 will be out before you know it ;)

It might disappoint it might not, no HL2 hatuh' or fanboy knows. But if you are so set on being disappointed by those games then so be it. Disappointment is never a games fault, but always the gamer. Don't let the hype build up in your head until its insurmountable.

I don't think half life 2 will change gaming forever etc etc bla bla.. but I do think the technology is awesome. All of Valve's work on the source engine will be HL2's true gift to the gaming community.

In the meantime I'm playing the Neverwinter Nights expansion campaign, and liking it better than the original campaign I might add :D

WCIII man, and the Frozen Throne expansion. Worth every darned penny. But for the most part I have waisted sooooo much freaking money this year on games it isnt even funny. Medal of Honor AA is fun, and so is the Spearhead expansion but those both came out last year and I waited till this year to buy them when the price went down. I am hoping that this next batch of games is good though, or I may end up scrapping the pc's and investing more time into sports games on my XBOX :eek:

What I meant by it is that the only "new" thing going for it is the graphics, which, I must say, are sweet.

Now, dont get me wrong, I guarentee this game gets over a 9 out of 10 at the gaming sites.

I guarentee it that I will buy it.

BUT, one can only have so much fun with all these fps shooters coming to the market.


I'm looking more forward to the mods like CS2 than the Singleplayer of Half-Life 2. Why?

Simple. You will start the game, amazed at all the detail, shooting enemies until there is no blood left in them. BUT, once you get to a certain point in Singleplayer, you will begin to see that the developers used the hype to get their money. Just like every other game out there, the levels will become less and less engrossing.


Just like BF1942. While it is my favorite game, you can tell that some of the maps are not as detailed as the others. For example, Wake, the original demo level, is one of the most detailed in the game, and is the most fun to play. I wonder why.

Then you look at maps like Guadalcanal, where its just a bunch of bumpy terrain with grass texture over it, and some bases on the hills. :(

Seriously, if you think HL2 is just graphics you haven't seen the E3 video (w/ the audio on). The graphics take a back seat to the physics engine which IMO is the next big step in gaming.

If you have broadband you should check it out.

ps there haven't been many good games over the last 6 months. Its virually been a virual waste land:)

:confused: Have you seen ANY of the E3 video or the other videos Valve released? The physics are the best thing about the game. There is so much to do in a small amount of space. (But the levels are huge)

Not just that but stuff like using objects, destoying them wich nice, the lighting effects are awsome, the Ai is spost be dam amazing, and from the (reviews if read) Its gone to be a awsome game! Hype is Hype. Look at jurassic park that movie has SO MUCH hype and hey it was a godo movie too +D so dont say somthigns not gona be good just casue of the hype, but I do udnerstand waht your saying just think yuor wrnog.

The amazing part of BF1942 is only the idea of having tanks, planes, ships, etc all in one pack. Nothing else is too impressive.
That includes regular BF1942 and DC.

Here is my thoughts

It does take skills in tanks, planes etc., but it is not equally important for infantry skill.(compare to counter-strike). You cannot even jump while crouch, cannot even jump into a "really" low window. Or rowing around on the ground while prone(like in the Army Operation). grenader launchers shoot too straight lack of good curve thus lack of the need of skill --> nade spawn is too easy (should like the ones in Firearms) Increase the need of skill to use the grenader launcher should be instead of decrease the number of grenader to only ONE which does not make sense.

Building structures are way too simple, most buildings are meaningless and more or less are exectly the same structures --> lack of hiding places (should learn from counter-strike and Day of Defeat)

City maps are too small, need bigger size for the cities and more "interesting" buildings like I mentioned above for fighting on each street and each building.

Machine guns should be able to set anywhere, include on the window or fence(just like Day of Defeat) BF1942 only allow prone while really use the machine guns effectively.

Guided missle is just like one piece of rock, no explosive at all...I expected at least as powerful as regular artillery.

The machine guns on the tanks or stationary weapons will "overheat" or something like that after shoot for only a few sec. and have to wait some time to shoot again, which does not make any sense. It makes more sense if they give a certain number of ammo each rounds before have to reload.(I see it is fixed on T72 in .39)

Should add stationary AA missles which is used in real war. AA guns?? What year is it?

Casualties should be removed, it is meaningless and shorten the exciting moment. It make the game does not show real "casualties" on both sides --> real skill of each team is not showing correctly.

The round should NOT end as soon as run out of reinforcemence --> It does not make sense that the battle suddenly ended while you are still alive --> The remaining soldiers should be finished off before the round really end. (for example: Firearms) In Firearms, the most exciting moment is one team runs out of reinforcemence, and the remaining soldiers hiding inside main base...behind trees, rocks, hiding inside every corner inside buildings of the main base waiting to defend it from the attacking force...watching the teammates fall down one by one, and the sound of gun fire getting closer and closer.... BF1942 takes this part away.

blah blah blah --- lots more things can be done to make BF1942 a much better game

1942 isnt a fun game at all. Tanks take no skill, and flying well Not impreseive. 1942 is a fun game non the less, but I dunno its kinda boring. Cs was fun but its to east. You learn to shoot 1inch bellow him if hes here, and 1.1 inch bellow him if hes there and get head shot 100percent time.. blabla it gets point of just memorizing where to shoot instead of there being wind and a chance gun shoots a bit to left, blabla

Lol, it's not a fun game at all but it's fun nonetheless. I disagree entirely. Tanks do take skill... if you just run around in a tank you're going to die. It takes skill to avoid being blown to bits because when you're in a tank everyone is targeting you. You also have to know the firing arc of a Sherman in order to hit something that's not right beside you. If you get bored with BF1942, switch over to Desert Combat. I've been addicted to both for some time now. I played BF1942 for a while and then finally got into DC... the DC patch is awesome, by the way.

DC's new .39 patch has serious bugs.

I just noticed one big bug. That is when I was in a chopper...everyone knows you have two rounds of 32 rockets, and two rounds of 8 missles. If I fire a few missles, lets say I still have 3 missles left in my first round, and then I fire all the first round 32 rockets...now it is reloading, and guess what? It reloads not only to the second round of 32 rockets, but also to the second round of 8 missles. Which means the 3 missles in the first round are gone? Excuse me, does anyone see my missles? Maybe I dropped it somewhere? I do not see it anywhere...

I tested it quite a few times, it turns out to be the same.
If anyone else noticed this. Or just me...

Another "good" bug, I was in front of a MIG29, and someone suddenly fly it, and I found myself caught in the middle air with the MIG, flying around all over the map. Nice way to travel fast :)

I forgot one big bad bug, there are at least 2 maps I cannot play. When the server change to those two maps, it seems my computer is also loading the new maps, but as soon as the loading is finished, my BF1942 will shut down and throw me back to desktop. Always these two maps.

yeah, 95% of the games out, and that have been put out as of late have been complete crap. either total hype or just a waste of time and code.

BUT i feel our luck is gonna change next month. :D HL2, Homeworld 2, Halo and a lot more i can't think of off hand.

I hate in copper when it reloads me in mid air and i cant fire =D dam Truth.. unless there is some one VERY good in anti air at bace.. I own in hlicopter.. i was messing around playing in hlcoper =D I ran over there bace let out all my missels at once, flew down stole tehre chopper then flew around in cirlces entire time shooting htem, there bace reloaded me too

Yeah, and neither will Tomb Raider/ Matrix/ Unreal 2/ need I go on. The best advice I read was to research games before purchasing. There is way to much crap out there right now and apparently a bunch of noobs who throw their money at the developers. I always get the demo and play that first, plus check several of the gamesites, Gamespot, etc, before laying out my $50. My shelf is full of games that were impulse bought at the store 'cause of pretty packaging, and I can't even dump them on Amazon 'cause nobody wants them!
Need something new, go back and get a couple of titles that were overlooked on original release, yet were quite playable games and at $9.95 - $19.95, aren't such a layout of funds. Check out "Clive Barker's Undying" and "Wheel of Time", both of which I thoroughly enjoyed as single player events and can be found in the bargain bin now. Now the multi's, you'll need to check with some of these otyher fellows.:D

I didnt expect anything from tombraider becasue I didnt like prev games either. Unreal Tornement the one that jsut game out? I excpeted a pretty game but I never expected any game depth. And for matrix lol I never excpet a movie game to be good at all. I expect HL2 to be good , and I know it will be simple as taht. You must have faith in these things.

gun selection is not much , building..hmrr , and the visual effect is quite something but I still dont enjoy it much
