Ok my 2 or so month old K6 2-500 board took a dump which I had my spare K6 2-233 in since I chipped my 500. So instead of goung back to either it's either the duron or T-bird with a new mobo. $$$ is a lill tight, my wife sold a few stocks,NOT "DOT com" either, that's a JOKE son, so I have a few Hundred to spend, looking @ a barebones sys, old sys is AT style. It wont be for a few weeks anyway so I am looking now, I know the Duron 600 will go up to 900 + T-birds around the same. Thanks !!

It looks like you have two choices here...get a 1Ghz Tbird 266 and get it up to 1.4 or something like that or get a Duron 600 and get it up to about a Gig. I think the Tbird is about 170 and the Duron is about 40. Other than that, the rest of your system will remain the same either way you go.

You're gonna need an ATX case with your mobo and processor.... no AT socket A board even exists.

I don't know about that motherboard..... As far as I can tell, it dosen't have the KT133A chipset, witch is bad. I also think it only supports IDE66.
CPU: I think u should either get a 700MHz, 800MHz or a 850MHz, cuz I have tried 2 750MHz and they are very bad when it comes to overclocking. (Could only hit 900MHz).
Another thing is the PSU, I think it's a little small, get a 300W instead.
What about RAM, and HD's?

Go for 1Ghz/266 AXIA Thunderbird atleast, with Abit KT7A(-Raid) or Iwill KK266(R).
Be sure to invest in the PSU also...

hey, i have a tbird 1ghz (200fsb), and a duron 600. I ran the tbird for a few months without overclocking cuz i have a really bad cooling system (50C idle), and i didn't want to mess with the L1 bridges on my good cpu, so i bought a 40 dollar duron. I got a bigger hsf too. The night i got it i pushed it to 1.1ghz easily...so i think if your going to overclock go for a duron since they are cheaper, cheaper keychain..just in case. As far as a motherboard goes get a brand everybody knows, Asus or Abit. A board from pricewatch probably wouldn't be the best one. You can get a Asus A7V and duron 600 for under 150 on ebay...

Don't forget the barebones system will likely have a cheap HSF that you will have to replace...you know that you will o/c it regardless of what you get.
I also would go for a motherboard with KT133a chipset if not a DDR board.

Thanks dudes for all the answers. As far as the HD's, keeping my 2, 128 mb sdram also keeping. Leaning to the Duron, yes it would make for a cheaper key chain."THANKS again"
