does windows autoupdate works when you're logged out in xp?

so if you have setup windows autoupdate feature to update your computer at 3am everynight, will it do the updates if you're not logged in to your account? meaning, i log out of my account(administrator) at 9 pm and goto bed, will all the new updates(if any) be downloaded or not?

i am fairly certain you have to be logged in. why not just try it?
