i have several 7200 rpm drives in my server and main pc, some people have some ultimate hd coolers for like 11 total and im getting at least 1, but i was if this really made much of a diff,, the best thing i can think of coming out of this is that if the fan is near the top, then it can simply push more air towards the exaust fans in the back.

I've got a 7200 RPM Westerdigital. It ran hotter than I would like when i first installed it in my DELL pos. Since the dell didn't have an intake fan I decided to put one in. I made a bracket to mount it where the intake fan should go but so that it's angeled to blow up onto the harddrive. Makes a big difference.
