Spec:

AMD Thunderbird 1GHZ
Abit KT7A Motherboard
Thermaltake DUO462-3 Super-Orb CPU Cooler (Socket A)

I have literally installed these in my PC and was wondering on whether any of you had recommendations? I put some silicon compound under the heatsink, however the VIA temperature readings go up to about 51 Degrees after about 2 Hours of Unreal Tournament, although they sit at about 31ish with no system traffic. The back of my case has no holes in it. I have a 300 Watt Powersupply and my motherboard has a fan on it aswell.

As you can tell I am new to this. I want system stability and performance initially and then maybe overclock in the future.

Anyone have any hints, tips, ideas, what information do I need to have?

Ditch the orb, if you want to oc. Those temps are too high for a non-oc'd system.

What does VIA HWM say your system temp is? That's going to affect how well your HSF, regardless of make and model, will work for you. My system temp runs about 2-5C above my room temp. That's an example of a properly ventilated case. Lets say your HSF, for your CPU settings, will hold it at 15Cabove system temp. If the system temp is 20C, the CPU temp will be 35C, if its 25C then 40C, 30C then 45C...etc.

Should I leave a few of the slots open at the back of my case as I have closed them all up.

If you don't have enough unused rear panel space to cut out a fan opening and you don't have problems with RFI (radio frequency interference), then yes, leave them open as escape ports. If your case does have a front cutout for a fan, put the biggest one you can get in there.

get rid of the orb, and WHY are you putting silicone crap under there??? Use arctic silver regardless of whatever heatsink you end up using

ditch the orb, use arctic silver under the heatsink, get some kind of case fans blowing in there (exhaust also!) and watch your temps come way down

You should snag 2 120mm fans for the side of your case, and a 92mm for the top blowing out.
and like the others say Ditch the orb........
I have a stock sink with a delta 38cfm fan .
and love it.
Temps never go above 36c
check my idle temps out :D
