I am building my own computer for the first time and wanted to put in a 250GB Western Digital WD2500JB when I found out that the package comes with a controller card it says I have to put in a PCI slot for my computer to register the 250GB correctly.

I'm pretty sure that the motherboard I'm going to use doesn't need that card. It's a Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2.

My question is with the operating system. Is Windows XP going to be able to recognize the amount of space? I tried looking through the forum and didn't find every answer I wanted. If someone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

first things first,

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS

now your answer, yes, windows xp will be able to handle a hard drive with that much space, windows will end up reporting ~233gb of space.

Depending on what version of XP you're using, you might have to install SP1 and get a new ATAPI driver. If you encouter that problem, here's the fix: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303013.
