I bought 3 newegg refurb 9500 nonpro red pcbs recently. I assumed they would all come to me working but with no softmod, knowing the sort of folks that are buying these things. Still I could easily resell them for 15$ profit each, so I bought them. And to my amazement... one actually doesn't work. It's quite a miracle I figure... that someone would honestly rma one of these... aww who am I kidding. The guy probably took a razor to the traces when he found out it didn't softmod. Crooks.

I used to be in love with Newegg's refurbs. Then I got two cards in a row that wouldn't work at stock speeds without artifacting. It seems like Newegg isn't even testing their stuff before they put it back up for sale. It was a shame, too... a 9500 Pro and a 9600 Pro, and neither worked.

Oh well. Perhaps I'll just buy a new card. I'm tired of buying refurb stuff.

Yeah, ill always be wary of video card refurbs. I got an 8500LE and it started getting text corruption about a month after i got it..

I hope this Ti4200 i got doesnt do anything like that. Im guessing the guy returned it because the RAM is a pos. But im waiting for the RAMsinks to come to see what i can do.

Who called it... the guy that returned it was a crook. Upon closer inspection... the shim is missing and there is about a gallon of AS3 spilling all over the place (Not just off the core, but off the chips pcb too.) And the idiot didn't even take off the PCM before he put the as3 on. The card is probably shorting and overheating at once.

if it was doa you should have just returned it and lost the shipping (they will take returns on refubs right?

Newegg clearly states that they don't test refurbs, why would they lie? "Heh lets say we don't but really do it, that'll fool 'em."

I got a refurb Router from TigerDirect. They said it was tested before they sent it to me. Sure enough upon arrival it did not work.

Hmm.. I got a refurb DFI lan party NFII and it killed my Ti4200.. If your 9500 didn't work, why didnt you return it? Its guaranteed for 15 days... plus, if it had all that ASIII and problems, thats a physical modification ;)

the only refurb I would buy is off ebay from someone with good feedback, say for example some guy upgrading his ti4200 to a high end card, not someone who returned it cause it wouldnt mod

I would trust newegg more than ANYONE on ebay. Ebay doesnt have a 15 day return policy ;).

I bet that Newegg will help you out if you tell that that it was doa. It sucks that you lose the shipping, people who return working cards/mess with them to return them just because they won't overclock xx mhz are idiots and crooks. What goes around comes around, you don't need to stick someone else with your card that you messed up cause it wouldn't softmod.

Refurbs arent as bad as you all think. I got 5 refurbs:

Abit BH7, Asus P4PE, P41.8A, Radeon 8500LE, Asus 9280TD Ti4200

The only part that was "bad" was the 8500LE - gave me text corruption. But 4 out of 5 isnt bad at all..

I am rmaing it... just got it yesterday and got the rma about 15 minutes after I saw all the crap that was done to the card. Sucks I will lose shipping... but what are you gonna do.

Another holy cow. Another one of the cards actually seems to WORK with the mod. The third works, but not with the mod unfortunately. Looks like it's Rma for the bad one, ebay for the unmoddable, and a happy place for the moddable. Bout time I got one that worked. This is my seventh red pcb 9500 nonpro.
