Well, what do you know! I just purchased a Duron 750 Mhz at a PC show last Saturday and earlier last evening, my PC froze on me. I rebooted, nothing happened. I tried, tried, tried and countless times of tries, I finally determine that my CPU is dead again. No sign of any burning or cracking whatsoever. Using A7V133, remember me?

Dang, I'm not too lucky with AMD CPU at all. Remember that I chipped my first CPU, a 1.2 Ghz 266 FSB awhile back, using a SuperOrb. And this time, I am using a ThermoEngine, but that doesn't have anything to do with my now dead (again!!!) CPU.

I just called the dealer and I'm going to their show or shop this week for a replacement CPU. That really sux, is it not? Who's less unfortunate than me? I hope no one is. It sux big time to be in my shoes, friends.

Take good care and happy computing!

Thats really strange.... Two CPUs on the same board dying. I'm gonna guess you cracked th efirst one(ORBs seem to love to break things). Hopefully the third time will be a charm.

Hey all, just an update to my previously 'thought' dead CPU. Well, what do you know? Today, I got my RMA CPU from AMD (so I now have two CPUs) and put it on, turn on the power, nothing, no POST, no nothing. Done all the Clear CYMOS, tried different power supply, took all cards out, try JumperFree and Jumper mode, no luck whatsoever.

Is it the problem with both of my CPUS? Or is it the problem with the mobo? It is an Asus A7V133, just want to remind you about it again.

The vendor I got it from said to ship them the mobo. It will be like a three-week turn around. Dang, that sux.

I just wish I have a second mobo to test my two CPUs. I'm very frustrated and if anyone could see me, I think that person may see fire flares out of me by now.

Do you have any hints or tricks for me to try before I send the mobo back? I'm worry that 1) My mobo may have damaged both of my CPU....or 2) My mobo is totally dead.

If I took out the CPU and turn on the mobo, a siren will sound, which kind of letting me know that the mobo may still be working. If I take out the memory and let the CPU on and boot it, the mobo is letting me know there is no memory. For once, the mobo sounds like it's working to give those beeping or sound.

However, if I put everything on, boot it, no POST, no nothing, totally blank. I'm so frustrated and I may burst at any minute now. I'm using my old, slow but very reliable Pentium 200 now to get on the internet.

If you have any tricks or hints for me, please help before I burst.

Thanks alot!

It doesn't take very long at all to fry'em and often they don't show the signs. If I was to guess, your HSF wasn't on snug enough. Having lost two TBirds and two Durons so far, I can't say I'm real happy with AMD.

Since you're running at A7V133 set it to jumper mode and see if you have any luck getting it to start up. Sometimes A7Vs and A7V133s seem to have problems with settings which stop them from starting and even clearing the CMOS on occassion does not seem to help. It really sounds to me like your board must be bad, if anything... If you were running with the heatsink on your Duron when it stopped working, and had not previously removed it, then it could not have "fried" from improper heatsink attachment.

I know how you feel! I lost 2 T-birds to not having a HSF on snug enough myself. This was 3Dcool's fault for selling me a fan that they said worked with thunderbirds... they have since revised that fans description, but they did it a little late for me! I also lost a Duron 600 that did 1 ghz by chipping the core when putting on a peltier, and since i got this one on Ebay, I just wasted about $70 =/

Try another power supply and also try taking out all but the essential cards to get the system to run. Maybe try a different stick of ram too. 2 chips in a row bad doesnt right, sounds like something else is wrong.
