View Full Version : I just realized, the Halo community will soon be playing reruns.

This thread is more of an observation than anything else.
So far, Halo has been out for Xbox for almost two years. I've owned the game for about 1.5 of those years, and have played it every which-way I can, and gathered every last bit of the story. The Halo community, like the great () one we have over at http://halo.bungie.org has already been all over the game, speculated, drawn up crazy theories, discussed who and what the (nonono spoiler) are, and has generally moved on with life. We're all waiting for Halo 2, now.
OMG WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE WHO WILL, THIS MONTH, JUST BE EXPERIENCING HALO FOR THE FIRST TIME.
...said a worried member of the community.
I know what it's going to be like. OCers can relate. Everyone here has seen those threads - "OMG I overclokced my comptar machine and now it wont boot!1 HELOP111" Normally we wouldn't mind answering such a question. This question, however, has been asked literally thousands of times, despite the huge number of stickies we have glued to the top of every forum and sub-forum. Take that problem, and multiply it by a hundred fold. Now we have a glimpse of what the Halo community will be in a month.
I feel sorry for those who waited for this game to be released for PC, and at the same time I'm glad I bought it when I did. Every one of you will get the game, bring it home, play it, and then jump online fully prepared to discuss and ask a huge number of questions - and all you're going to get in return is "OMG GO SEARCH TEH ARCHIVES N00B" and a link to said archives. From early 2001.
Discuss if you must.

I've played it through numerous times on the Xbox as well. I'm still excited about the PC port. Better graphics and sweet multiplay (no split screen!) should make it even better. But yes, I anxiously await Halo 2 as well.

My brother just bought an xbox a couple weeks ago because he was going to college, so I got to play the game finally. Bungie is my favorite company of all time, I had been waiting for Halo long before I even heard of MS making the XBOX.
Although now that it is coming out on PC, some skilled play will be possible =) Im sorry, but you can't properly play a FPS with a controller. Not that I didn't massacre the single player and stuff, but man am I going to love flying banshees around on the computer and everything =)

it's going to be no different then when Max Payne finally hit consoles, GTA3/GTA3 VC hit PC and a few more i can't think of right now. honestly, i didn't see any increase in noobish posts on the GTA3mods.com forum when GTA3 or Vice City came out on PC. for the first couple weeks there might be a dozen threads started about something that was totally covered from A to Z already but it's not going to be near as bad as people think.
i've been waiting for Halo ever since i saw the preview for it about 5 years ago (back when it was supposed to come out on N64), after the repeated delays then switching to X-Box (which i can't blame them) i lost intrest. now that it's about to be released for PC i'm starting to get a renewed intrest :D

I'm going to have to disagree there. Normally I *would* agree, but there's a certain weapon - the Plasma Pistol - which can't really be used that well without a trigger button.

Except those games weren't out for two years before they hit PC, and their stories are no where near as deep as Halo's.
I doubt many of the PC gamers are gonna get the game for the story...
FPS's, to the vast majority of us, are for online purposes only. Multiplay is far more fun that playing an FPS for a story. Look at Unreal2. What the hell was that? Maybe I'm speaking for myself here, but the only games that I play for stories are RPGs. They're the most thought out and they're the most interactive, in terms of getting involved in the story. They have responses you can choose from (most of the time) among other things.
I'm not going to be getting Halo, however, since I do have an Xbox. I don't have Halo for the Xbox either, but I will be getting Halo2. That game looks very fun :D.

This is true, I will buy it for the multiplay.
I also will be playing Halo for the first time...and enjoying it, next month. I played it at a friends house and i just hate playing FPS on consoles, I hate aiming with my right thumb.

It's not that it's going to be a rerun and it won't be worth it or anything. The big deal is Multiplayer. It's gonna be freakin awesome. The single player is just gonna be a bonus. I'm willing to bet 90% of the people that are going to buy this, would get it for the multiplayer alone. ;)

Yup, I'll be one of them:D . I've already beaten single-player Halo, so why bother playing it again? I gotta brush up on my skillz though. Oh and Halo 2 will probably take up some of my time as well. :)

I played it through on xbox, the novelty wore off after I beat it,
its just not fun playing the same story over again with enemies
who have dead on accuracy...

Yanno, theres always the thing called "Left mouse button".
;)
I played halo on the xbox for a day then quit.
FPS + console = teh lose
Id like to see someway of playing halo on the pc with the xbox version on a network. That way we can put all the controller fanboys in their rightful place :D
Edit:
XeRoFuN: Nice avatar :p
I hate that kind of attitude TPC...
A bunch of 'old school' elitests telling noobs to "read the damn FAQ" or "use the damn search". It makes people feel like crap and is absolutely horrible for community growth. And, when you actually do use the search you find people telling the question asker to 'use the damn search' in every thread that comes up. Is there only one thread allowed for each subject?
If you guys at the great halo.bungie.org don't want to deal with this either lock registration, or start up a totally different forum for the PC game and never go there. Or if that does not happen start your own forum where you can bask in each others halo 1337ness noob free for all eternity.
I bought Halo, one week after it first came out. It still is my favorite game. In fact today I spent about 2 hours playing it. I feel it has probably the best single player and multiplayer replay value of any game I have ever played. The AI is still top notch compared the pretty much any game out, and the graphics still impress me. I think the people who play the PC version are going to get a huge treat, and I am sure finally the whole community will agree that HALO is one of the best FPs ever.
P.S. I know much of you guys are mutliplayer freaks :), but Halo's story line is really good.

Hold on now, Gnerma. I never said I liked how that sort of thing happens, it was merely an observation. I don't take part in it. And if the forum BB code would parse correctly, you'd have a rolleyes smilie right after that, indicating sarcasm. HBO was destroyed with all the Palor's egg garbage.

If only. The very best console players would get owned by a mediocre pc player (well, maybe not the really really good ones, but most). There is no way you can be precise with that blasted pad thing. Now a mouse... shot in the head from across the map, that's some accuracy =)

So then a really good console HALO player actually has more tallent then a really good PC player.

No because the console has that stupid autoaim crap.

The PC version does have the auto aim, but I'm sure you can turn it off.
BTW do you guys realize how silly this argument is?

The PC version will NOT have the autoaim, We're too l33t for that ;)
Besides, you know how annoying that will be with a mouse?
After watching Pitchford play through a couple of the more recognizable levels, like the Silent Cartographer, we were hard-pressed to detect any appreciable differences from the Xbox version, aside from the mouse and keyboard interface and the removal of aiming assistance.

The PC version will probably have auto aim, just like Half-Life had auto-aim but only for the single player part. Online play will probably disable it just like you could use autoaim in HL but not in CS.

Okay, I had read the article quoted below a while back and figured the mentioned "lock-on reticle system" was the auto-aim feature we were talking about. I have yet to play this game on any platform so uhm I r teh dunn0 :D
From this (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/halo/preview_6028228.html) earlier gamespot preview
Jumping into a familiar single-player level gave us plenty of opportunity to see just how good the game feels with PC mouse-and-keyboard controls. Aiming with a mouse seems to make the game a little easier, given that the lock-on reticle system is the same.

Though it pales in comparison to the Marathon series, its quasi-prequel.
