I have a AMD Thunderbird 800 CPU and an ASUS A7V. The bios is at version 1007. I tried to unlock the CPU by doing the pencil trick, but to no avail. I am gonna try defroster repair, quite abundant at work (car dealership). Anyway, I don't hav ethe manual to my m/b, left it at a LAN party. Cooling is somewhat a problem, nothing major. I read that everyone has their CPU temp down to like 30 degrees celcius. I have a full tower case, 2 fans installed on the side blowing in, an intake fan at the bottom of the front, power supply exhaust fan, turbine fan in a PCI slot, and just acquired a Thermaltake Chrome Orb. My CPU temp according to ASUS Probe is 50 degrees. Dunno why. I need detailed information from anybody who has o/c'd their T-birds. I am gonna d/l the manual from ASUS website. Mainly I need to know what the jumpers need to be set at. Jumper Free, clock multiplier, etc. PLEASE HELP ME!!

Here is a link for the Asus board on how to overclock it;

One more thing, lose the orb they really suck. Get a Wyn, swiftech, Vantec or Alpha. Much better cooling.

Jackal,
I can get my ADFA 800 T'Bird to 997.5 at 133fsb (7.5x133) easily, but the full load gets up to 48 degrees C. I am waiting on the new batch of HSFs to upgrade my Coolermaster HSF. I am running my CPU right now at 798 (6x133) and at full load it is only 42 degrees C. I tried the auto repair kit but the paint was too thick for me to apply correctly. I redid the L1 bridges with the Radio Shack conductive pen (used with a needle) and had no problems with the multipliers. Da Whip is correct, you do need much better cooling than the orb.

Get a better H/S the orb is not a good choice in coolers if you are going to OC much. I have a TBird 800 on an A7V running nicely at 1.1gig using 1.85v. I have found it best to take the board out of jumper free mode and set everything manually like voltage, fsb,and multiplier.

So what your saying is that when I unlock the CPU, I'll be able to set the multiplier and everything from bios, and not from setting jumpers? Let me know. I appreciate the info. BTW, what cooler would be best for the money. I don't have much to spend and the misses is getting pissed at me for spending so much money. Today I bought a different case. Did have a full tower ATX, went back to the mid-tower. Not enough room in the cabinet in my desk to circulate enough air with the full tower case. I also picked up some imitation brand thermal paste. Can't ercall what the good stuff is at the moment, drew a blank. The smaller case is runnin the same temps so I am not concerned with that. Thinkin of gettin the tubular IDE cables. The ribbons seem to affect air flow inside the case. At least to me anyway.
