I was overclocking my 900 TBird up to 1020 stable.
Now the weather is getting warmer and the processor was suddenly no more stable with the few more celcius of the spring air ...
I did following : just LOWERED the CPU voltage to 1.65V instead of 1.75V.
And it worked, CPU is about 10 celcius cooler and rock stable.
Everybody always told me to raise the voltage for a stable overclocking ...
Did anyone else experiment this ?

I've tried it and got the same results you did. Mine seems to run just as stable at the lower voltage.

Take Care guys!
ABits recommended voltage is 1.7 V for 650-1000 Athlons.
Do not surprise if you will get reboot during film opening.

Core voltage is rarely a set standard. My 600 Duron does 600 at 1.325V despite being recommended at 1.6V. There is a "sweet zone" for every CPU and it may not be the same for the next one that came off the production line after it. Experiment and record your results for reference, for when you are working up the OC ladder. Here's a graphic of my Durons "sweet zone" in terms of core voltage.

Obviously, I haven't looked at my graphic since I made it a couple months ago. My previous post should have said 600 at 1.275V.

I just took my Duron down from 1.85 to 1.725 with no stability problems! I tried 1.7, but folding kept quitting with errors. My office cooled down considerably also. The cpu temp is down 5oC. Great idea!

i've tried this before, but my duron600@1100 won't let me go lower than 1.89v.. but my full-load temps are below 45c so it's all good. :)

I just took my voltage down to 1.675, and its just as stable, and 4C cooler than at 1.85.

So what is a normal vcore setting for a 1ghz Thunderbird? CPUCool says i'm running at 1.79. Should i try it lower? The processor seems to be running warm to me, without overclocking. (54.5C at load and MB at 32) I'm running an ASUS A7V.

AMD says the voltages are as follows:
1.65 minimum
1.75 normal
1.85 maximum

Correct me if I am wrong ,but not having enough voltage ,could'nt that kill a chip ,I mean I know that if you have most electrical appliances on an long ext cord that it will burn them up becuse of heat loss in the cord, wouldnt this be kind of the same , or is it just the amperage that is lost in an ext cord and not the voltage ,someone say somthin ,post your thoughts

yeah, it's just the amperage thats lost. All wires have resistance, the longer the wire, the more resistance it has and the less current you can push through it. The voltage remains the same. I dont think less voltage will kill a chip (I could be wrong here) it just wont work right.
