I've been trying to get ahold of AMD for RMA instructions and havent been able to get through to the number in the book that came with my processor. Does anybody have any other way to get hold of them?

Since AMD does not sell direct to consumers, I don't think you will be successful. Only the original reseller will offer an RMA to you, from which they are authorized to gain credit directly from AMD.

Not what you wish to hear, I think. The only exception, is if the reseller has acted in some way "deceptive" and you are reporting a complaint to AMD regarding its distribution channel resellers.

Well, according to them, if you need to return a processor after the vendors warrantee is out, you should contact them and they give you a number. The number comes back 'all circuits are busy, try back later' Think there are that many people trying to get a hold of them?

Yes, in that case .... AMD is the only option.

But, I would think that if the Distributor warranty has already lapsed ... there would be only a few situations in which AMD's warranty would still be intact.

Most distributors if purchased with AMD approved HSF will provide a warranty which is co-terminous with AMD or shorter. And if you bought the CPU OEM and without a HSF from the distributor (even though you use an approved AMD HSF of your own) you'll have a very short warranty .... like 30 days. Lots of different situations here, that 's why I don't generally buy from pricewatch.com because NewEgg and others have crappy return policies.

Wish you luck

I bought a boxed 1.2 266 from a local store to replace an 800 that I had. when I tried it, it did not post, so I tried it in a different machine with the same results. When I took it back to the store the next day they tested it and it didnt work for them either but they said that since I didnt use the fan that came with it, I was using my alpha PAL 6035, that I must have burned it up and they weren't going to honor their warranty. They said I would have to contact AMD to get it replaced. AMD has a 3 year warranty on their boxed CPU's but I havent been able to get hold of them.
