Hi. Just wanted to get some opinions on what people thought was the best overall Heatsink and Fan for the Slot A Athlon. Currently using generic, but have been able to OC my 600 to 741 by just changing jumpers on mobo. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanx.

Although someone could probably recommend a good name brand HSF for you, at that speed a generic heat sink with 1 or 2 fans should keep your system working nice and cool. I actually have an 800 Mhz core classic Athlon running at 944 Mhz with a generic heatsink and 2 60mm fans which never gets me over 100 degrees (F), and generally runs around 86 degrees (F). Just keep the case cool, too.

i also have a slot a athlon 750@ 1050mhz.(gfd attached) i bought a Alpha P7125 hsf....i'ts huge and keeps my cpu about 40c under load, system has been running since febuary non-stop,running seti all the time.modded my case with 3 fans also 120 at front,80 at back and a 92 blowhole at top, also ya might lose a ram slot because of size,or it depends on what type of mb ya have

I started with an generic dual 60mm fan, it wasn't so bad after all, but I never did any temp measurement actually. When I started my very first overclock on my athlon 500, I made my own ducting system in my case. Then I wanted some real stuff, I bought a GFD and a GORB (golden orb cooler). The first was a succes, the second a miserable failiure!! Never ever buy a GORB, they suck. It requires high temp. diferences in order to take heat away, there is too much aluminium between the core and the radiator fins.

Well, by that time I became an addict and had been playing around with some hoses and looking for watercooling. Now, I've got it running for 2 months. Runs very fine for me, temps are excelent! Core 34°C back under load, 17°C room temp. I can't measure direct die in my waterblock (home cooked), so I use CPU back, it's a little bit warmer that the core.

But as for a professional aircooling solution, I can certainly recommend the Alpha's or other disigns with LARGE surface area/ good fans. Also copper is a better heat conductor than aluminium. Don't buy orb disigns for slot-CPU's, it won't work!

When I had a Slot A, I used a GlobalWin VOS 32 w/dual Deltas and a Leufkens GFD. The only problem I see with the VOS32 is its weight.

I am happily using an Global Win VOS 32 with an 80mm Papst Fan and Home Made Duct...Cooling Backside of the Chip also with 50 mm Fan.
At the moment, my CPU 650@900 1.9 V stays at 36 Degrees under full load. But I´m going to change the Papst against Dual 60mm Y.S.-Tech fans which do fit much better on the Heatsink and provide higher Airflow...
Hope that helps

This might be worth a laugh, but it works better than anything I could have tryed... I make my living as a consumer's electronics tech, so every kind of stuff gets in my hands from every where. A buddy at work requested me to check out his microwave oven. (Yeah, you can start laughing now) The thing passed out. So I turned it to pieces and ready for the dumpster, but, I kept the huge, 120 VAC squirrel cage type fan. Now, when I run seti@home overnight, or allday while at work, I leave that thing blowing straight to my cpu.
After 9 hrs of seti, I can touch the hsf and it feels as if the puter IS OFF...
My mobo MS-6167 does not have the hardware monitor chipset, so can't tell real numbers, just think it does not go over room temp...he he he
