I moved my HD's and cards to a new motherboard. I never could get the sound to work. It would lock up if I opened a program of any size. I removed the sound card and it worked normally. I assumed the board was hosed so I moved everything back to my old system. As luck would have it; the problem followed!!!

My old system now has the same problem as my "new" one.

Old box: Abit BH-6/Cel.500/AH 2940 w 2 WD 18.1 SCSI HD/Voodoo3/SB16 ISA/384M RAM

New Box:Asus A7V133/Duron 750/512 M RAM/SB 64

My old box worked fine before! I just wanted to do a quick upgrade!!

I am out of ideas!

TIA;Paul

What OS r you running?
Maybe the sound card is the culprit/or its drivers? Does the new system with the new mainboard also run ok without the sound card?

And since you changed the mainboard, it's always better to do a fresh install of the OS or a repair (Win2K & XP) with new installation of the device drivers.

98SE. The other box worked well with the exception of sound. I disabled everything not used in BIOS. I guess a fresh install is in order!

If i read your post right your using an old ISA SB16 for sound?

If so I'd recomend getting a pci sound card. the cheapones can be under 25.00. If you are using an ISA card there is probably a memory conflict. The board cannot do all of the shuffling that it can do with PCI

If the problem followed you, there is the chance that the sound card is trashed.
Also, take a check in your Device Manager, and see if the sound card is porperly installed.

did you try the latest driver for your sound card ?

perhaps, this is a time to get a new sound card
