Just got a new 700 Duron th replace the 850 I fried. Slapped some Artic silver and a Coolermaster HSF on it and it fired right up. As its on the Gateway MSI board, there are no overclocking options. I left the room for a while, and when I returned, the heatsink was lying on the table, and the box still running. "Oh S#*#, there goes another one". I shut it down, and the chip was red hot. I wiped it down with alcohol, let it cool, and decided to see what it would do. To my relief, it fired right up. The onlty thing I can figure might have saved it is that there may be some sort of thermal shutdown feature that cut power to the socket before the chip fried .
