Hey there

I have installed the Alpha PAL 6035 with fan and my CPU (AMD TB 1333) seems to go up to 52°C under load, so is that normal with such a cooler?? I had the impression that my cooler wasn't touching the core because of the 4 stickers attached on the AMD. I put on some thermal grease but most likely the force of the spring will make core and cooler touch right??
Thanx
Marc

Believe me, if your HSF base were not in contact with your CPU core, your temps would be even higher. The 6035 is a good HSF, though a bit limited by the 60mm fan form factor. I, personally, do not like stickers on my CPUs. As soon as I am certain that my CPU is not DOA and I can run it at the default multiplier and FSB rating, I take them off and clean off any residue they might leave behind. As far as your particular temp goes, yes, it seems a bit high. Why, remains to be determined. Do you know the temp inside your case? Even the best HSF can only maintain a certain difference between the temp of the air in which it operates and the CPU temp. IE If a particular HSF can maintain a 20C difference between the air and the CPU, then, if the air is 20C, the CPU will be 40C. If the air is 30C the CPU will be 50C. See the relationship? So, the case temp is important. The differential that your HSF can maintain, like the 20C cited above, depends upon what HSF you are using plus how effectively it is thermally coupled to the surface of the core on the CPU. By that, I mean, is the surface of the HSF baseplate as smooth as possible? Are you using a quality thermal transfer grease? Is the base of the HSF sitting flush with the CPU core? Does the retention spring/clip system exerting adequate pressure between the HSF and the CPU core? All those factors influence whether a particular HSF can perform at its rated thermal transfer specification. So, there are some points to ponder and examine with your particular setup there.

Thanx

Well, my CPU got up to 62°C (!) under full load when the case was closed and I don't know the temperature, it was very hot in the case. What can I do except for leaving it opened all the time? There's no fan outlet supplied with the case, just above the 400W box. Would this help? I don't know, it seems to be too far away from the cooler and the CPU...

i here also have a tb1333 and i have a case temp of 28c and cpu temp of 48.6c ,all i have on it is a superorb, artic silver paste and 3 case fans installed.(120 at front, 80 at back,92 at top). ive being playing with it a bit and running tbird 1333 @ 1459 mhz right now. being running seti non stop and playing Unreal Tournament . hasn't hit over 50c yet while playing. maybe a few case fans might help ya out

Just following up. Consider a new case. The Enlight 7237 Mid-Tower is a good choice for a not-too-big one. That's what I'm using and my case temp right now is 22C. I got mine for $51.00 with a 300W PSU and extra fan on the front. Shipping was something like $10.00. Otherwise, there are plenty of "how-to" articles around the OC sites on modding your case for better temps.

I have an older 6035 that had it's own feet to stabilize it on the FCPGA PIIIs. Make sure those feet are removed, but keep the TBird feet they protect your cpu.

52C is a bit high for 1.33GHz. Are you using 1.75V? My 6035 cooled my AVHA 1.1 to about 40C at 1.33. Possibly try a stronger fan or better case cooling.
