View Full Version : Battlefield 1942 Seige Mod
This is something everyobody should try... it's hilarious and fun as hell. Still early, but it will be interesting to see how it comes out in the end.

I should have mentioned that this mod "takes place" during the Middle Ages, and is an England vs. France type historical thing... with archers, crossbowmen, swordsmen, infantry, and spearmen. They are working on horses atm, but they have finished catapults, battering rams, etc.
Seems like this would require more teamwork than other mods. Archers are useless unless they are in a group, and swordmen have no change against two or more enemies alone, even with their shield.
I like this mod more than others, I'm a history nut:p

Sounds like a laugh....I'll d/l and try it out!
I like it. Played it quite a bit yesterday. Still a really young mod with a lot more to do, but I think it has great potential and is refreshing since all I've been playing is "shooters". Here's the info from FilePlanet for the lazy:
*************************
Siege is a medieval based modification for Battlefield 1942. Spanning 500 years (1000-1500), Siege tries to capture the feel and struggle of pitting a large invasion force against a heavily fortified defending team.

The mod is not completely based on historical accuracy and will use a mix or real and generic elements but will still try to capture some of the realism of war in the middle ages.
Siege (Version 0.24)
Maps:
-----
This version contains two maps, Agincourt and Siege of Orleans.
The Battle of Agincourt was fought during the Hundred Year's War on October 25, 1415. The retreating army of King Henry V of England faced the numerically superior army of Charles VI of France. The English army, using the advantages of the terrain, came out victorious against the heavily armoured French cavalry which got bogged down in the mud and was wiped out in the hail of arrows that rained down upon them. It was one of the turning points in the war.
In 1428 The English started besieging the town of Orléans, a key bridgehead to the southern cities of France. It was the largest remaining fortified position held by the French. The siege lasted for months until the momentum swung towards the French when Joan of Arc led a relief force which lifted the siege in 1429.
New Vehicles:
-------------
• Siege Tower – Large, mobile assault tower with drawbridges. Unarmed and slow but provides a protected means of scaling walls.
• Catapult – A mobile, boulder hurling, siege weapon that provides indirect fire power against fortifications.
• Battering Ram – A close range vehicle specifically designed to level gate doors. It provides protection against arrows from above for up to 6 soldiers.
• Landing Boat – Quick and manoeuvrable basic water transportation used for surprise raids.
New Stationary Weapon:
----------------------
• Ballista - Defensive siege weapon used against formations of soldiers. Also works on siege weapons.
New Infantry Weapons:
---------------------
English:
--------
• Swordsman – Sword & Heater Shield combo
-basic infantry weapon with wide shield for protection vs. arrows.
• Infantry – Morning Star & Round Shield combo
-powerful blunt weapon that's also useful against siege weapons. Round shield provides basic upper body protection vs. arrows.
• Halberdman - Bill
-long reaching pole-arm weapon that's useful at repelling assaulting troops.
• Archer - Longbow
-long range bow that is deadly when used in large numbers.
(English halberdmen and archers also receive the standard issue dagger that is weaker and shorter than the sword.)
French:
-------
• Swordsman – Sword & Kite Shield combo
-basic infantry weapon with tall shield for protection vs. arrows.
• Infantry – Hammer & Round Shield combo
-powerful blunt weapon that's also useful against siege weapons. Round shield provides basic upper body protection vs. arrows.
• Halberdman - Poleaxe
-long reaching pole-arm weapon that's useful at repelling assaulting troops.
• Archer - Crossbow
-powerful penetrating bow that can decimate a soldier in a single shot. (LMB = fire, RMB = zoom.)
(French halberdmen and archers also receive the standard issue dagger that is weaker and shorter than the sword.)
** IMPORTANT INFO INVOLVING WHAT WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THIS VERSION **
-blocking animations (shields can only block flying projectiles)

-horses (development has started but it will have to be redone from scratch. They are not included in any of the new maps but can be found in existing BF1942 maps instead of the Kubelwagen)
-co-op mode (existing maps partly support co-op mode but some original vehicles remain and may cause highly unbalanced gameplay)
-team death match & capture the flag modes have not been tested and no support is provided for them
