Hi
Just fixed up a new Thunderbird system up and running. However i have yet to overclock the CPU as I am a virgin overclocker and i dont wanna have to bust anything. Here is my system specs :
ALI KA-266R mobo
AMD 1.2G TB 266FSB AXIA??
Taisol HSF 1.5G
256mb Twinmos PC2100 DDR ram
IBM 13G ATA66 7200rpm HDD
Enlight 300W PSU and casing
I would like to know if theres anything i must do before i start overclocking...saw some posts about the pencil trick but i dont really know wat tats all abt. Thanks for help and attention. Appreciated.

Would you mind horribly if I sacrificed you to the OCing gods so that I can get another multiplier out of my cpu?

im sure you dont have to worry about the pencil trick to unlock your chips multiplyer. axia L1 bridges are already connected.if you think you read enough about setting your own multiplyer,fsb,i\o and voltage settings not to mention your memory's settings and dont forget to disable 4x agp, it would be time to see what your computer can do. good luck and keep an eye on your tempurature i personally think that anything above 50c is too much for me but other people might say more than that is acceptible like around 55c any how have fun

There are some great articles on the main page about overclocking including, but not limited to, a beginners guide. They have alot of good information in them to help you become addicted to overclocking. And BTW, Welcome to our forum!
put the mem voltage to 2.6, cpu voltage up to 1.80. make sure you have a kick ass aircooler (read alpha/global win) and set your multiplier up one level in the iwill smart settings, reboot and see what happens. If you go into windows, try another multiplier level and keep doing this untill you are unstable, then up the voltage and try again. keep doing that until you have found a max stable setting, then start uping the fsb slowly until it is unstable, and back down a notch or two- as long as your cooling is good, this method will get you as far as you can get. Then there is just fsb overclocking, leave it at default and just keep upping the fsb, or even lower the multiplier and go for even higher fsb

Very weel put Jordan. That is a safe and easy way to initiate the vasel virgins to OC'ing.
Virg, Make sure you have good contact between the HSF and CPU, also use a liberal amount of thermal grease (Artic Silve if you can get it). Wouldn't hurt to lap you heatsink, helps w/ cooling.
