Hi there

I need some desperate help with my new computer. Even my computer shop techs are at a lost! I got the system 3 days ago, fixed it up and it was working fine intially. I was surfing yesterday and i suddenly lost connection. Thinking it was my cable provider....called them up and they couldnt solve my problem over the phone so they sent a technician.
He checked and verified that nothing was wrong on their part. Tried swapping network cards, swapping cable modems, cables, using another system to use with my cable point etc...etc. I took it down to the shop where i bought the stuff and they changed every single component but to no avail.
3 days now and nothing is solved. Even tried changing different mobos from different manufacurers. Nothing seems to do the trick. Now when i start my computer, the usual windows login screen is missing. It boots up straight into windows. And i cant surf of go on the net. And the local tech support also cant seem to find the fault. Can someone please help. Thanks

Regards

When the tech was there, did he measure the signal strength on the cable at your modem? I had the same problem when I got my cable modem and it turned out that the signal strength was too low. I ran a direct line from a splitter right where it comes off the pole and now it works great.

Hi there again. Firstly, thanks alot for your tip. I followed exactly as you said and more. And now its kinda working. I called the cable guys up and told them the situation. They asked me if i tried using another computer(i got 3 computers and 3 seperate cable points at home)for my current cable point to see if that worked. The thing is i did and i could run with the Pentium3 computer. Thats really weird isnt it? I told him that the only reason i could think of is that probably....i repeat....probably this new(ddr etc) requires more signal strength than others(sorry for being so crappy but i am at a total lost). They said since swapping computers work then it isnt their fault. That their signal is sufficient. Oh man....I just spent a fortune for my current setup and i cant get it to work. Not even the local tech support. Wat am i to do??? Thanks for listening to me complain. :(

That would'nt be Comcast@home ?? They are totally useless, everything is always someone elses fault but theirs. LOL.

Hi there again guys. Thanks for all your kind tips and advices. I got the damned thing sorted out....FINALLY. Root of the problem is totally ANCIENT man. Made me feel like a total reject. Man the problem was due to deterioration of my 10Meter Cable connecting from my cable point to my NIC. Damn i am dumb...lol. Nevertheless.....thanks again for all your help. Hehe..sorry for not checking thoroughly enough b4 posting and bitching.
