My 900 thunderbird...
1st things 1st, I used a pencil, drew the fine lines, plugged it in, no video.
took it out.. the chip was hot as hell!. I was like OMG.. I quickly cleaned it off.. same thing. I know the chip is now fried. and I just got it 2 days ago!

Well, now is time to buy a new chip. Which should I get?? I have th KT7A-Raid from Abit. My question is.. can u run a 200FSB Thunderbird @ 266FSB?
also can u run pc133 @ pc100 speed?

did u use a HSF? Just in case u didn't, a word of advise. NEVER EVER TURN ON AN AMD SYSTEM WITHOUT A HSF. As far as getting a 200 fsb chip to do 266, it is just luck of the draw. my chip will do 140x10 (280fsb) and more with better memory, but whose to say? the majority will, but there is no way of telling till ya try.

I have an AXIA 200 fsb 1.2 chip that does 140 FSB with no problem.

I'd recommend the 1.33/266 as they've been overclocking nicely

You can run a 200 at 266 if you drop the multiplier enough.

also can u run pc133 @ pc100 speed?

Yep :)

The FSB does not effect the chip at all, all the chip cares about is what it's total MHz is. The thing that holds your FSB back is your Motherboard, PCI Cards, Memory and sometimes Graphics card.

Yes you can run PC133 RAM at PC100. although, why would you want to, since you can have your CPU at 100 mhz DDR FSB and your RAM at 133 mhz, since via Chipsets allow asynchronous FSB and Memory settings.

i have a idea for you to try .. if you have a soldering iron.. you see the little transisters and resisters and everything soldered on top of the amd athlon.. take the soldering iron and resolder all the little ships on the AMD Prossessor.. some times when they over heat it will make the solder melt and loose conection

and you're smoking what?! ;-) :)
if the chip gets hot enough to melt solder, then it's definitely never going to work again, so don't bother trying to fix it.

It worked for me... i had AMD socket A 900 that i overclocked and a wire blocked the fan from spinning and the chip was dead.. didnt do anything... i was like oh ****.. NO this cant be happing... i took it out an put it in the closet and one day i took it out and .. took the soldering iron to it and it came back to life.

spent the extra 10 bucks and get the 266, there will be no possibility of dissapointment if you are the unlucky sob to get a 200 that wont for some unknown reason hit the 266 mark
