Hey, plugged in a lil fan onto a running system, the unplugged it, and all my fans died! i immediatly turned it off so heat wouldn't get the chip (within 2 seconds), and i tried to boot. Hard drives spin, motherboard LED is on, cd rom floppy etc all come on, everything except the fans! what is wrong!?! i thought maybe i fried the tbird 1ghz, so i put in my duron, still the same problem. Please help me!!!

It's possible that you fried the fan header system on your mobo (I suppose. Not sure such a thing can really happen...). You probably wouldn't have a problem if you just plugged all the fans into the power supply with some molexes.

pehaps there is a lesson in all of this the only thing that is hot swapable would be usb conectors ;D

sounds like your going to have to power your fans straight from the psu or rma the board

i hotswap everything :\ i guess i learned my lesson. i made a makeshift connection from the hsf to the powersupply, everything booted fine, i guess i fried the fan header. What's this about rma'ing the board? i've heard of rma but i dont really know what it is... plz englighten me :)

rma(return merchandise authorization). email the site of the company you ordered it from or contact the store you bought it from and tell them your board doesnt work, make sure it doesnt sound like your fault. either the company will give you an rma no. so you could ship it to them or mabey the store you bought it from will do it for you you shouldnt have a problem i have done it several times even without the part bill.

so if i tell them everything was working fine for 4 months then i booted up one day and my fans didn't come on, would they give me an rma?

The only problem with this RMA is that he's had the mobo for four months. I fried my first A7V, and the store wouldn't RMA it after 2 months. I had to fight with Asus(who's too chead to offer a 1-800 number) and get them to take it back and fix it.

Hey, just for the fun of it, grab your multimeter, (that thing which reads ohms, volts & amps) and look for a molex out of the power supply. This time be VERY carefull not to short anything. Look for 12vdc at the yellow and black (the black inmediately next to the yellow wire)... Let me know if that voltage is there, ok???

what's a molex?

what's a molex?

Named after the manufacturers who gave birth to a lot of connectors devices. It is nuthin more than a wire connecting device...And by the way...If using the multimeter to look for the 12 vdc, make sure you put the black test lead to the black wire and so the red one to the yellow wire, otherwise you'll see a negative voltage when it really is a pos voltage.

That's ridiculous! I plug fans in and out of the fan headers all the time while my board is operating with absolutely no problems. I don't know why his fans all died, but I have done fan swapping on about 8-10 different boards and I have never had a single problem! Not to mention in my experience some USB devices aren't very hot swappable themselves. ;-)

well, it was on sort of a makeshift extension, probably what fried it, i got the connectors today, all is well :) (cept for my fried fan headers)...now i have more problems...i think i'm gonna start another post lol
