I'm trying to OC my Athlon without having to go the multiplyer route. My system is:

900 Athlon
Asus A7Pro MB
512 Micron Pc133 (2x256)
Asus Geforce GTS Pro 32 mb
SB Live!

My question is: If I change my CPU frequency in my bios to 133Mhz and also set my Memory frequency to 133 Mhz what happen to the frequency to my video and PCI components. I've read that the multiplier for Video is 2/3 and the PCI is 1/3. So:

133 x .66 = 87.78 Mhz (Probably way to high for video)
133 x .33 = 43.9 Mhz (ditto)

Will the multipliers for the PCI and Video automatically change to correct values when I change my CPU frequency to 133 Mhz?

Hope I explained that right any help is greatly appreciated. Trying to break the gig barrier!!

okie, dokie..

it's like this: the pci and agp busses are multiples of the frontside bus.. that is correct.. but you're using the wrong multipliers. for most mobos, they use a 2/3 agp and 1/3 pci multiple from a fsb of 100mhz up until about 120mhz or so.. from there on they use 1/2 for the agp and 1/4 for the pci. so at 133 you still have 66mhz for the agp bus and 33mhz for the pci bus. and everything's hunky-dory.

BUT, you're never going to get your fsb near 133mhz with that chipset, so you don't really have to worry. the a7v and a7vpro use the kt133 chipset, which is incapable of fsbs much above 100mhz. most people don't even get to 110mhz. personally, my a7v maxes out at 107mhz. you'd have to get a board using the kt133a chipset to use higher fsbs.

oc'ing on that board is going to need multiplier changes to get anywhere. you'll get a few more mhz by upping the fsb, but don't expect too much at all. oh, and don't worry about the ago and pci busses. you won't get them much out of spec with a kt133 board.

good luck! :)

Thanks alot Proze, guess that explains why it flakes out at over 107. Well since I really don't want to remove my heatsink and do the multiplyer thing I guess it's a new MB. Any thoughts on a Asus AV133e (I love Asus).

Thanks for the help.

well, if you have the money, then a new mobo would always be nice! the kt133a chipset provides significant performance increases over the kt133 if you make use of the high fsb options. but you're going to have to remove your hsf in any case to install your cpu in the new mobo. and even then, to get the fsb nice and high, you're going to have to drop the multiplier, which would require unlocking the processor. don't be daunted by this task. it really is very easy. i've personally always used the pencil trick, but many othes swear by conductive pens and defogger kits. any of these methods will work, and are perfectly safe if you take your time and do them properly. there are also lots of guides on how to do it if you're unsure. there's a good one right here on overclockers.com, and we have one over at wildandyc.co.uk as well.

feel free to post any more questions you might have!

Listen to Proze, I have both an A7V and A7V133. The Kt133 chipsets were the first generation of the socket "A" chipsets and needed an improvement hence the KT133A. A lot of people are reporting FSB's upwards of 150MHz, I've run at 142MHz with the KT133A. The best I can get with the KT133 is 110MHz.

There's another issue when using a 100MHz CPU at 133FSB. It seems that some motherboards, when starting the POST, will look to the CPU multiplier default settings to initiate the process. Therefore a 900MHz CPU with the default settings of 9*100, would try to start at 9*133, yielding 1197MHz, maybe a bit high. I used to have a link to an article about this, but can't seem to find it lately. If you look into some of the more popular websites, you should be able to find this information.

One thing to say, KT133.
