I have played a few games on 2003 server. Attack Sub 688i and Earthbound. :)
is there any performance decreace with the 2003 server for games, or any improvements?
I'm using it right now as my only OS, and I play many games on it. Gaming compatibility is the same as XP, but I haven't tried to do any comparison benchmarks. All I can say is that it seems to perform just fine.
I don't think the version would make a difference as far as gaming.

Windows Server 2003 is meant to be a Server OS, not a Desktop. There is no benefit of using it over using Windows XP. For all the work it takes to configure Windows Server 2003 to even play a 2d game with sound, you can turn off services in Windows XP. To those people who go "Is it any good for gaming?", I say, you have no intentions to purchase it. No home user would spend $1000 on a Server OS to be used as a Desktop OS. Neither I, nor this forum, condones warez. I, on the other hand, use it on a server and love it.
KraziKid is right about the warez issue. No one in their right mind would buy server for a home pc. I use server 2000 at work and we have server 2003 on a few machines too.
I havent spent much time on server 2003 but server 2000 is a pile of crap.

I've been using Server 2003 since I got my MSDN subscription, and I am loving it. My father purchased a copy for his office as well. I have been the admin of my home server, and my father's server, and both are running strong. Before the great blackout of 2003, I had about 90 days uptime, and everything was still running smooth as silk. I never actually spent much time on Server 2000, so I can't compare to that. I can, however, compare to Linux. Before I was running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise on my server, I was running gentoo linux since around November of last year. I loved gentoo, don't get me wrong, but after I installed Windows Server 2003, I don't think I will be going back to Linux anytime soon for my personal server. Both have their places, but for my needs, Windows won out.
