Hi all, long time no see...

I'm kinda confused here.

First, let me give ya the basics.
Soltek 75frn2-l nforce2
Kingston HyperX pc3000 (1 512 stick)
2400 tbred

This memory should run at 385 no prob (192 x2) but it won't go above 166 and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

In my bios, currently I have the following settings.
11 x 200 for a cpu speed of 2200
I have the memory set to auto which I believe runs the memory at 166. The reason I believe this is because in Sandra, my memory bandwidth scores are the same (about 2500mb/s) whether I have it set to 166 or 200. If the memory were truly running at 200, it would be more like 3000mb/s, even tho sandra and cpuid say the system bus is at 400mhz.

I can set the memory to run at 83% which is still 166 but when I try to set it any higher the system wont POST and I hear one long repeating beep. The same thing happens when I set the memory BySpd (which tries to run it at 200).

Sorry if I'm not the only one who has posted this problem but the search function here is down and I couldn't find anything on the first couple pages about it.

Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Me wants 3 gb/s :( !

First of all, I'd suggest that you synchronously. Most nForce2 mobos don't like running in async, and perform worse with it, too. Try something like 183*12, at 100%. If that doesn't work, increase the vDimm a notch. HyperX should be able to work at the tightest latencies.

Thanks for the reply Gautam,

I tried it at 183x10 @ 100% with no luck, so then i turned it down to 166x10 @ 100% and turned it up one notch at a time. Everything is good til 169 but at 170, it wont boot. I just get the long repeating beep.

I also tried turning the vdimm up to 2.7 but it didnt help.

Any other ideas?

well, it seems this is more evidence that pc3000 is/was really pc2700. how relaxed are your timings? that ram should have a lifetime warranty, i'd look to get it rma'd if it wont even run at default specs...

I have to agree there. If it can't run at spec, an RMA is the best option.

rma is out of the question. I've had it for about 6 months or so. I did however, just write to Kingston. We'll see what they have to say.

I never really worried about it before because I didnt realize that setting the ram speed to auto kept it at 166. I thought that because cpuid said 400mhz, that it was running at 400 mhz. I did however know that I was only getting 2500 mb/s mem bandwidth and basicly disregarded it. I probably should have acted on that sooner.

I'll let you guys know what Kingston says.

Thanks for the help!

i thought kingston hyper x carried lifetime warranty? if not i will never buy any kingston ram. no lifetime warranty to me is a red flag...

It has a lifetime warranty. The question is.. Is it broke?

If it is the ram that is slowing me down (which it appears to be), then I'm sure they'll have no problem replacing it.

What I meant is I can't rma it from newegg cuz it's been 4 months since I bought it.

when I bought it, I expected to get every bit of 400 mhz out of it. Although I would have settled for 370. 338 (which is all I can get) is unacceptable.

I rma'd it. As soon as they approve, it'll be cross-shipped.

When I bought mine it was $90, now its $121 at newegg and Kingston's price is $150. Guess I was at the right place at the right time :) .
