When you try to overclock a locked CPU - you can only overclock it on the FSB. In order to overclock on the FSB, you must have a chipset such as the KT133a, a DDR or via SMA chipset that will handle FSB's over 110Mhz or so.
As such, and because of the limitations of memory and potential speed with top memory speed known, it is far more beneficial to unlock the CPU.
Unlocking the CPU could not be easier. Join the breaks in the 4 L1 bridges with a very sharp pencil. Make sure that you don't let any of the pencil lines join whilst making sure you give each one of them a good old covering.
Every website into overclocking and performance has a "how to unlock" your socket A processor page on it.
