Well I am still an AMD fan but have had Intel since like the 286 chip or whatever. I dont want any AMD vs INTEL debates here, I just want answers, lol.

Ok well I am building a computer for a client and this is the parts I ordered for them from NewEgg and they arrive any moment since I overnighed them. :D

- SOYO P4I 845PE LITE
- ASUS 32MB MX400
- P4 2.4BGHz 533FSB 478PIN/512K
- GEIL 256MB PC-2700
- HD 40GB|SEAGATE
- LITE-ON 52x24x52
- Sony 16x

Other Parts
- 400W ICute PSU from Xoxide w/ LED fans (special for me only :D )
- Case from CompUSA - Client Picked it up
- Misc fans
- Speeze P4 Heatsink (says EE415C5 LeopardClaw on box)
- Rounded Cables and so on

So my question is is there anything I should know when building the system? I havent build any P4 systems, it looks a snap but I dont want to damages something and have to pay for a replacement out of my pocket... Main question has to do with the CPU and heatsink mounting, rest I know since I build comps all the time. Thanks.

EDIT: Also how much thermal paste do I put on?

Should be straight forward if you've built systems before. Just use enough compound to completely cover the heatspreader with a paper thin coat.

So just a thin layer, got it. Any more tips I should know?

Also, any one got some info on the mobo? Does it oc well @ all? Thanks.

Well, for not much more you should of got an Abit IS7 and 2.4C, that's the hot ticket right now with dual channel DDR. Oh well. If this is running at default speed or just a mild overclock, don't bother with thermal paste. The retail heatsink will have a black heat pad (called a TIM) which will work just fine. The heatsink cage has 4 plastic tabs/legs that you need to snap down into place onto the mobo retainer. Once it's on properly, you move the two cam levers over on the top to lock it down solid. It's not hard at all. If you decide to use thermal paste, this black pad must be completely removed.

Ok thanks. This system wasnt built for all out OCing. It was built to be cheap, lol. I just wanted to know about the OCing possibilities... Im an avid OCer @ heart, lust look @ my main rig. :D

Don't know much about that mobo (if you can't fix the PCI then you'll be limited). Most of us here use Asus or Abit. The 2.4B is generally a good overclocker though. A modest overclock to 2.7 gig should be a no brainer. Most of those 2.4B CPUs will do 3+ gig. A few lucky folks have even hit 3.3 to 3.4 gig using all the typical overclocking tricks and with exceptional cooling.

Ok, the board has the PCI/AGP fix so the speeds are locked.

the Q malay SL6RZ's were the worst, lucky to get 3ghz on that chip. sorry :(
