Buying RAM for my bros old Compaq

Its about 3 years old, Compaq 5009CL 1GHz PIII. It comes with 128MB SDRAM PC133 and I would like to add another 256MB stick for him. My question is that if I buy any stick of 256MB PC133 will it work? Cuz I used the memory configurator but the RAM there is around $70, where the generic RAM is about $30.

Check Crucial.com. They have a memory finder for all sorts of brands and models. Your Compaq should come up, and matching mem should be cheaper than Compaq's, and they guarantee it will be compatible.
