View Full Version : Am I nuts? TBird 850 @ 1040 (6.5 x 160?!?)

Man o' man ... I must be dreaming, but I wanted to get your folks' thoughts!

So I just unlocked my TBird 850's L1, and also set the onboard multiplier (L6) down to 7 (since I have an Epox mobo) so it would boot w/FSB jumper set to 133.

In the BIOS (post-boot) I've set the multiplier to 6.5, FSB to a blistering 160, and voltage to 1.80v. Oh, and get this - all I'm using for cooling is a standard CoolerMeister fan.

Consider...
[#]The system boots @ 1040Mhz, and Win98 starts w/o issue
[#]The FSB & Memory speed is160Mhz, and the FSB data rate is a blinding 320Mhz!!
[#]Running SETI@Home for 4+ hours, the max. temp I observed was a chilly 44 deg C
[#]I played T2 for a good 2 hours, with nary an issue

Am I nutz?!? Shouldn't stuff be crashing and burning? ...or, at the very least, burning? Shouldn't I be @ Home Depot right now loading up on clear tubing for a Peltier cooling system? What the heck?!?!

So, I wonder - has anyone else had similar experiences?

Specs:
TBird 850 @ 1040Mhz (6.5x160Mhz)
Epox 8KTA3 mobo
LeadTek WinFast GeForce2 Pro
PC133 SDRAM (Microtech)

Very good. Indeed. Especially that FSB.

I just wouldn't trust a single program putting max load on he chip, though.
I haven't tested seti@home, but I don't think it puts enough load to get the maximum temps. Try running multiple benchmarks at the same time, see if your temps get higher. Just make sure you don't get ANY errors in, for instance, Prime95.

Do yourself a favor. Benchmark the CPU/FPU performance as well. Try your 6.5x160, as well as 7x150, 7.5x145 and 8x133, to see where the best balance of memory, cpu/fpu, and mmx performance occurs.

I also have the tb 850 @1050

I have it set to 150X7 pretty stable on cool days but crashes when it gets hotter outside.
