I have a AMD K6-III 400mhz and what to over clock it, and was wondering how high it would go. I am going to use a new fan that i got for a Socket A cpu, it is from cooler master and it can take socket A chips as high as a Duron 850, will this fan/heat sink do the job.
Thanks

I cheked that CPU database on this site and i found that the average clock speed attained was 454Mhz, which is a good improvment, the highest clock speed was 650 with water cooling

you might get a few mhz more out of the processor. the hsf would be fine.. you'll just have to check to see that it fits on the socket.

it also depends heavily on your board. the mobo will have to provide you with the necessary options to overclock the processor. what mobo is it?

I dont know what borad it is, but it does have multiplier settings and can only go up 100mhz FSB

I donīt think you do have a high chance to get higher then 450 Mhz....
The K6 II is not known to be a very good overclocker, even with good cooling..
But keep trying!!!

Its not a K6-II its a K6-III. there is a difference

well then i suppose your next step would be to try 5*100.. but i'm not sure if that's gonna work. you'll most probably have to up your vcore a bunch to get that, and even then it'd be shaky. those cpus don't overclock well. i really struggled with mine to get anything more than a 50mhz oc.
