I notice a huge difference in temperatures between an open air case and a closed air case. Almost 4 degrees Celcius in CPU temperature.
I'm not sure why this is not posted in cooling, but if by open air, you mean with the cover(s) off, then you could benefit from more cooling effort in the case. IE, more fans, better placement of fans, tidying up the cabling, etc.

if you have proper case cooling, you'll get better temps still with the case closed. my temps climb dramatically if i open my case. try getting some blowholes in your case, and see what that does to your temps.

I agree w/ Hoot and proze, adding a blowhole and fan in front sucking in will help w/ temps. Systems run better w/ case closed as this creates a good air flow.
I totally agree. I've got a 120mm fan blowhole blowing air in right next to the cpu, which has an alpha pal 6035 and 80mm->60mm fan adapter and a fan on that. It creates a nice little airflow that keeps my mb around 22-25oC and my cpu around 43-46oC under heavy load.
i took a slighlty different aproch then some , i turned my 80 mm delta that came with my swiftech around so it was sucking the air off my cpu and vented it directly out of my case all of my temps droped a great deal
18C room temp
24C case temp
41C cpu temp
1ghz 266 tbird 1.89 cvolts
im not using case fans, which ive heard might be a problem as it will create negitive air pressure in you case, and suck dust into your floppy , cd rom and dvd

Think about that for a minute. You have that honkin fan drawing air from inside the case, up through the heatsink and exhausting it out of the case. Where does the air it gets in the case come from? It is drawn into the case through every crack, crevice, removable media drive, etc. That is exactly the definition of negative case pressure.

yep that's prety much what I'm saying ...
that's why every time I post what img doing . I also post the potential hazered that comes with this type of cooling solutions ;D
I guess if you didn't mind the noise you could add a 120 to the case but that would defeat the purpose of just 1 fan ....noise ;D
