I bought a AMD classic 600 system from gateway, and it was sold as a 600. But now that i OC, I have since noticed that the chip says its a 650 core (in the code), but has ALWAYS posted as a 600, even in Si Sandra. Is this a true 600??? ( if so why the 650 in the code) or is this a 650 that i haven't taken advantage of?? The BIOS has no FSB, multiplier setting-so i cant see if i can adjust it to do 650-ill try to find a BIOS update Help is appreciated

I believe on the classic Athlons, sometimes higher cores were used in lower speed CPUs. I guess this is kind of what is still going on now with the 1 GHz AXIAs. If it's detected as a 650 core, it's possible that it has really been tested to that speed fine. Then they just slapped it in a 600 processor, because they needed a 600 not a 650.
Indeed, AMD rated many cores lower, because of shortage of certain speeds, some even weren't produced!!! I got a original 500, which had an 650 core and 3.3ns L2cache (mend for 600 processors at most). Now I've OC'ed it to 800 with 1/2 L2cache as standard! 1.8v. It did 750 at 1.65V with good cooling, but hey, who doesn't like a fancy watercooling system to show off at the local LAN-parties?
the CPU that was sold to you, is an original 600. thumbs up for dissembeling it with care, it's a job you have to do carefull in order to succeed. I also had some moment I thought "oh, boy, now you've screwed up, scratches on your PCB", but it runs fine. If you want to unleash some real power of that athlon of yours, get an Gold Finger Device. It will set your CPU multiplyer, and your mobo will recognize it as another default CPU and run fine, FSB adjustment or not. 700MHz for sure with that one. 200MHz extra is the average for Slot-A's, no guarantees. If you have more question, you can always ask, nice to see some people are still enjoying the hidden powers of Slot-A athlon :)
Succes, happy OC'ing!

My 650 Slot A has also a 700 core.Always nice to discover such things, isnīt it
Get yourself a GFD and there are some more MHZ waiting for you..
I donīt think you will reach one Gig, consider yourself lucky, if you are able to hit 900 with that Mobo
Anyway, good luck
