Building a ~ 1 gig system want the most bang for my buck....Fan cooln only

What are the real differences in terms of overclocking and performance in the following chips...

1. Duron chips 600-800Do you need a slot card for kt7a or is the socket the slots replacement?

2. Amd Athlon Classic (slot A?) Do you need a slot card for kt7a or is the socket the slots replacement?

3. Amd Athlon tbird (slot A?) Do you need a slot card for kt7a or is the socket the slots replacement?

4. And the newer 200 and 266 fsb Athlon out of my price range...

Will they ALL! work in a kt7a?? For upgrading purposes..

The Durons are Socket A. I've never seen a slot to socket converter...just the sloket to slot converter. The Duron would be a great (inexpensive) CPU.

fully agree with the duron being the best cpu for the dollar. but think about holding off a week or two and save the extra 50 or so $$$$ and go for the athlon. Either way you will be good to go.! Good Luck

Bang for $ wise the Duron is unbeatable. At about $60 for a 600, which will likely do in the area of 1 GHz, you get great value.

However I you can somehow muster $150 you will make a longer term investment in an AXIA 1 GHz TBird, which will likely take you close to 1.5GHz. !GHz of Duron power compares to about 800MHz of TBird.

So yes the $60 Duron still gives you a better overall bang/$ but the o/ced TBird is not that far behind. It costs more because it's faster.
