Here is my system specs...
1.1Ghz Locked AMD TB (100x11.0) (Coolermaster 18cfm cpu fan)
ABit KT7 Mobo (Latest BIOS)
Creative GTS2 32Mb (6.31 drivers)
256Mb PC133 Generic SDRAM (2x128Mb)
45Gb 7,200rpm IBM HDD
52x Creative CD-ROM
Creative SB Live! Platinum
3Com 10/100 Network Card
Dynamode V90 Modem
250w SUNTEK power supply
3 System Fans, Adapted Taisol cpu fan on GTS2
This system I have is only a few months old, but I need something faster without a full upgrade. I had an athlon 650 @ 750 in my old system running rock solid stability but my new system has problems with even 1fsb increase.
If I put the fsb upto 101x11.0 my system posts, windows loads but freezes just before everything is done loading on desktop. I have tried increasing my voltage but that does not solve it. I have also tried putting my ram back down to HSTCLK but I get the same thing. Its not any of the PCI devices because I had the same layout in my old system which was at 115fsb.
I don't need to go into massive overclocking yet, i just need my system to run 10-50mhz faster to beat a friends spec pc :)
Do you have a way to determine your temps? That 18CFM fan looks wimpy. OTOH one MHz should not put the system over the edge, but if the temps are borderline it might happen.
Also, is your heatsink mounted properly, using thermal compound?
Good luck

Ok, yes my cpu fan is mounted correctly.
Yes I used thermal compound (Arctic Silver I).
Yes I use VIA Hardware Monitor.
I get about 30°C Idle temp
I get about 40°C Stress temp
And the cpu maxes at about 42°C
Are these temps ok? My friend has virtually the same rig and his temps are average of 50°C

Temps look very good. Which motherboard do you have?
Is it possible to change the multiplier to say 11.5?

Ah, im good to see that my temps are considered low. But unfortunately this does nothing for me as I still cannot overclock.
My AMD 1.1Ghz core is locked, I tried unlocking the cpu by joining L1 bridges but I found it too difficult. This is why I need to overclock through fsb, not multiplier.
Oh i said earlier that my motherboard is the ABit KT7 I am glad to say this is the best motherboard I have ever bought. It has an amazing amount of options in the softmenu III. I bought it as I know its considered as an overclocking motherboard. The heatsink/fan combo on the north bridge blatently points this out :)

I would suspect the Power Supply. From what I've seen one needs at least 300W for a full system and 350-400W is better.

Thankyou, i have been thinking about getting a new psu.
Why are psu's so expensive btw?
And can you recommend what psu gives good cabling, good power and as little heat generation possible. Thanks :)
if u r strapped for cash then go with the Aopen 300W psu..
very good.
i use it in my sys.
it is better then the enermax 330W psu..
have u tried upping the IO voltage???
the KT7 was meant to be run at 100fsb,so if u up the IO voltage then it might stablize at a higher fsb.
try the whole setup with minimum stuff in it...
and if it post at a higher MHz then u know it is the PSU
at fault.
hope this helps...
GOD.....
try bumping you i/o voltage 1 notch and your cvolts to 1.80
