View Full Version : High Temp!!
My 1.2G type C thunderbird on my A7A266 produces so much heat! The temperature of the cpu is 58max and 50idle. Does anyone know if theres any way i can get my CPU VCore voltage down? It seems the minimum my mobo allows is 1.75 in bios but its actually detected as 1.80V by the Asus monitoring utility. I am using a 1.3G Taisol HSF which i dont think is very good. And i dont like the high temperature and Vcore voltage. Wat can i do? Someone pls advice. Thanks.
Lap the cooler - my temp is 10C lower after lapping! and use good grease... not too much...
Sorry but wat do you mean by lapping? Thanks

Can you list the following information:
Fan on the heat sink
Your ambient temperature
Number an size of fans in your case
Thermal compound used

Lapping the HS means that you sand the part of the HS that is gonna touch the chip-sond with like 600, then 800, then like 1500grit. After that the HS should have a shiny look like a mirror. It wil drop the temps aroune 8-12 degrees, and use good thermal grease like Artic Silver, or Artic Silver 2.
sure....
AMD T-Bird 1.2G Type C 266mhz
Taisol HSF 1.3G 5000RPM
Ambient temperature is about late 20s - early 30s
256MB Nanya Cas 2 PC2100 DDr ram
Enlight Mid tower with 300W PSU and 2 40mm? fans - 1 in, 1 exhaust
Normal cheap thermal compound (white)
I have since ordered a SwiftTech MC370-0A HSF and some artic silver II. Hope to get it in the next 2-3 days. Will the HSF fit on my mobo? oops. Pls advice. Thanks

Your problem appears to be your high ambient temperature and low (if they are 40mm fans) aiflow in the case. The Swiftech should help you out and better airflow in the case would help even more.
Thanks for the info. Now i am seriously considering ordering one of those modified lian-li cases from www.tweakbox.com. Damn those cases are lovely. Cheers.

The ASUS Probe utility tends to read about 10c high. To verify this is part of your problem use the ASUS Probe utility to read temps then reboot to BIOS and read the temps there...they are probably in the neighborhood of 48c.
Lapping the heatsink isn't a bad idea either.
Replacing those 40x40 fans with 80x80 fans to improve the airflow surely helps to lower the case temp and the CPU temp as well.
Get a vapochill case if you can afford one ;)
