What is the best Duron chip to buy for overclock ability? I don't want to buy a Duron 900, if I get the same over clock speed from a $37 Duron 700, ya know?

It depends on what you want. If you want a great overclock in percentage terms (ie. 50%) the 600 is great. If you want a higher MHz go with an 800 or better.

well, I suppose I would like to hit maybe 1.2Ghz, with relative ease. what have you seen as far as easily acheivable, stable 800 Duron speeds?

Check out the CPU Database, there are alot of Cpus's posted there, and what people have and havent been able to do with them.... Good Luck!
want to hit 1.2 G???? then there is one number for you... 900 :-) :-) :-)
what would you say about duron akca ??
green core
My 600 is an AKBA and runs 1.0G effortlessly, however, that's as far as it goes without drastic measures.

Hoot,
What do you consider "drastic measures"?

My Duron 800 hits 1050 easily however Win2k Pro becomes unreliable at these speeds so i keep it at 1 GHZ for now. So i would suggest that to go much faster than the 1 ghz you should get the 900 Duron
Duron 800 @ 1000 mhz with Global Win Cooler
Abit KT7A-Raid Motherboard
512 mb of Ram
Elsa Gforce 256 (32 meg) @ 132 mhz core / 170 mhz Memory speed with Blue Orb
Sound Blaster Live
Full Tower with 5 fans

I've got two DURON 600's at or above 1.1gig right now. I think that first you need a good series of processor such as the AKBA 600's. Second, you need the right setup, motherboard, cooling, Ram etc. Lastly, you need the luck of the draw.
If you are looking for the best "bang for the buck" it's hard to beat the proven successes of the DURON 600's. However, if you are looking for the absolute fastest, and best performing system, I would think that you would want to spend the necessary money to get the best motherboard, AXIA T-BIRD, PC150 RAM (or possibly DDR), high end video card etc.
Whatever path you choose, Good Luck!
