What is Genome@Home? http://gah.stanford.edu/

It is an example of a distributed computing project whereby the goodwill and spare CPU capacity of computer users worldwide is harnessed to further scientific progress in an endeavour requiring massive processing power. The goal of Genome at Home is to design new genes for vital proteins. As well as giving an understanding of how genes and proteins work it could potentially point the way to new therapies for some of the many metabolic diseases that kill thousands of children and youngsters each year.

1.follow this link to the Genome@Home download site. http://gah.stanford.edu/download.html

2.Fill in the form choosing a Username,Password and e-mail.

3. Download the Windows Genome@home client software.

4. Run the setup program by double-clicking on the icon (ghclient_win.exe).

5. Run the Genome@home client by choosing Genome@home from the Start menu.

The Genome@home client will ask you some questions.

a. For the "group name" dialog box, the name you type will appear on the Genome@home web site user stats page. You should enter the same user name that you used to register with Genome@home on the download page. It should not contain any whitespace (to insert a space, just use the underscore "_" character).

b. To join the T-bird Team enter the account number "876431303" in the "account" dialog box. Genome@home will then add you to the team.

6. The Genome@home client will start receiving and processing data automatically. To stop the console at any time, press control-C.

7. The next time you start up the console, it will continue from where you left off.

We have a good Message board http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TbirdTeam all messages willbe answered.

At the moment,we are the Team list 90 now and waiting more members
(due to lack of membership), we are not giving gifts for joining the
team :( , but we are elated to have you join. Post a message here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TbirdTeam
some time and let us know where you are and what you are using to

Geez, these @home projects are all the rage now a'days... Now the only question is, which is best: Folding@home, Genome@home, Prime95, Seti@home? Argh there are too many!

ok, i would have to say f@h cause we are doing it! Seti is cool and sexy, but what is the benefit of it. Ok, so we find aliens that are light years away, then what???? It will be a long time before we could ever think about going there. F@H has more tangible and immediate benefits than SETI. And prime95 is just a geek thing, who cares what the next prime number is?(although it is supposed to be great for a burn in).

wait, this is for the human genome project, I thought this was finished and now folding proteins was the next step, I'm confused now!
