In your opinion, who makes the best laptops - parts - support ect.
If you had to buy one used in good condition where would you look?
Anyway to build your own?

You can't build your own. Well you can but it's too much trouble and would end up costing much more. Hopefully that will change sometime in the future.
From what I know the IBM's are the most durable and most reliable. So if buying used, that's the best bet. But if buying new, then the brand doesn't really matter imo as long as it's a common brand such as Dell or Toshiba.

any idea on gateways?
I had an older Gateway laptop. It was horrible. Well, actually, I guess it wasn't so bad, but it cost a lot more than it was worth. The battery life was short, it got painfully hot, the cover for the hard drive was only held on by two little pieces of plastic that easily broke, it came with a dead pixel, and Gateway wouldn't replace it. I bought it new. I love my Dell, on the other hand. I think it's worth every penny that I paid for it.

man that sucks about your gateway, i was just curious about them.
I wish i could find somebody somwhere to trade my desktop for a nice laptop :D
I got a Toshiba Laptop several days ago from Bestbuy for $699 after rebates.
A very pretty (metallic blue + silver + gray + black) laptop
Celeron 2.0Ghz + 256MB DDR Ram + 30GB HDD + better than I had expected speakers (made of titanium)
Don't build your own laptop. Parts are near impossible to find.
It's different from building a desktop.

Get a widescreen dell!! My dad has always bought dells, and been happy. Reason he keeps buying new ones is, they get stolen :( :( :(
One got stolen at an airport, another from our car when at bertucci's, another... er... forget about it
But the dells are nice

I'm sorry to hear that. Is there anyway to rig up a tracking system? GPS anyone?
Also, I like my Gateway Solo 1450. The batt life is horrible, 1.5 hrs if ur lucky, but it was cheap around Christmas. Refurb for 829 bux. 1.3 ghz, 20 gb, 128mb SDRAM, 14.1 inch screen w/ no dead pixels, and a DVD player.
I've also heard DELL's are wonderful machines- if you have the money .

imma try to see if they got one of these shiny silver/blue toshibas that Luie speaks of.
one of the main reasons i would get a laptop would be for wardriving. (been wanting to do this for a couple years)
cyrix, thats a great idea about the gps!
