Hi All
Heard about problems with GFDs being used on K7V. Implemented some of the solutions but my cpu still wont boot up. I have a Northwind rev 2.0 GFD, (does it matter if one of the wires for the cache kit is broken off the PCB of the GFD?) with a VOS32+ heatsink (VERY NICE heatsink!)

I have a classic Athlon with a default speed of 550MHz, bios 1008 beta C. I access the bios to change the core voltage to Auto and the hardware monitor to 'ignore' but it wont boot up. Gives this loud and soft beep in a continuos loop. When I take off the GFD, everything works fine. I even set the GFD voltage to 1.85V, but still wont work.

Do I have to do anything to the L2 cache? If I do, can I do it in the bios.

Please, if anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy...
I have the same GFD, m/b & HSF so I'll try & give you a hand...

I don't have the cache kit on my Northwind & if it is broken I suggest you take it off completely as it could be the problem... The L2 cache divider can be set in BIOS with v 1008 Beta 001-C... 1008 Beta 001-D has the option but it doesn't appear to function correctly...

Try setting the board into "jumpermode" & see if that works... Although she could do more just see if it will boot at 600MHz to ensure that it is working...

Depending on whether your Athlon is a (C) .25 micron or an (A) .18 micron while define how high it will go... This information is found on top on your CPU (plastic cover).... But you should get 100-150MHz gain without too much trouble...
