Is getting an Axia chip just the luck of the draw or is there a way to get with out just purchasing and hoping?
Alot of the 1.2's were AXIA and I believe all of the 1.3's and 1.33's are AXIA. Unless you can look at the actual chip before you buy, it's kind of a crap shoot.
a lot of vendors are advertising them as such now, but it ususally comes with a price hike over the 'regular' chips...

They have a good reputation for overclocking
Go here: www.pricewatch.com/ in the search type axia an it will give you a list of vendors an price.

Or if you have a chance to get to a computer show, you can hand pick your cpu. Just ask to see their tray of 1gigs, or whatever you are looking for, and check for axia. That is how both silent bob and i got mine. What is really amazing is that the 1 gig and the 1.2 axia both reach the same speeds. When I got mine, maybe 6 weeks ago the venders did not really know what I was doing, but when silent bob got his maybe 2 weeks ago, they know what we where looking for. Some venders are advertising the axia, for a premium. One thing to remember about buy from a computer show is support after the sale, maybe non-existant. Goodluck.

it is a crapshoot, even if you can't get an AXIA you should be able to get an AVIA which is nearly as good.
