Sounds like it isn't installed properly. The GlobalWin FOP38 is a large H/S fan with a stepped side to clear the top of the socket. Make sure the stepped side of the H/S fan is installed on the solid plastic side of the socket where Socket 462 is visible.

DaveB is probably correct, sounds like a bad install. Not seated properly.
Is the HSF lapped and did you apply any thermal grease (Artic Silver)?
That will help bring down the temps.

I think it fits propper on the socket! I have used some thermal grease, there was a pad though!! As i put the HS away it was melt over and maybe stuck the temperature in someway?? I tried to remove the rests...

I will have a look after the Cooler again! And i put the Copper-Plate inside again!

65C is the BEST you can do?

Did you use heatsink compound? If not: Turn off system immediately, go to next Ratshack, buy heatsink compound ($2.99), apply, turn on again, hope it's not damaged.

Hm what do you mean heatsink compound??
I used some Heat guiding-paste if this is what you mean!

Now i reinstalled the Sink and looked for that its propper seated!
But again 60°C without any big load!!! :-(

Dunno what else to do...

btw. how much of Heat guiding-paste is the best??? but i dont think that is the problem!!

Ok after more of the paste i have a 60°C on load! hmm but i dont think this is it??

u have to us little as possible.
just enough to cover the core with very thin layer.
try with the side panels off.what is the room temp??
or the case temp.
what r u using to check the temps???
would be good to know...
will make it easier for us to help u....

Hm now i installed all in a new Case!! A little bigger and better for cooling!!
I buyed ArcticSilver too and installed it like described at their webside! And i lapped the cooler!!
Now it runs with about 55°C wihtout any big load(Win98) and a Case Temperature of actual 29°C!
The Room-Temp is about 22°C I think!
And at the Moment my side-panels are off!

hmmm, this makes me nervous....

OK, Update!

Now i installed MBM5 on my PC to see if Asus is right!!
And i installed a 2nd thermal sensor right beside the die!! Because the report until now was for backside!!

I got a Temperature of 55°C in normal W98 on back and 41°C on the upper side of the CPU!!

Is this normal ??

What mobo do you have? Perhaps your mobo's thermo sense is bad or is somehow bent and is too close to the CPU or is touching the underneath of the CPU? The only thing I can think (minus all those were already posted) is a bad thermo sensor or that it is physically touching the CPU. Try running your system outside of the case and physically check the contact of the HSF and the CPU's die. Good luck!

it is suppose to be touching!!!!LOL......
the thermal sensor needs to touch the chip get the temps correct.....

Hm yes, thats what i thought at the beginning!

But i did not see anything looking like this sesor under the CPU!! Only 3 littlew chips or something!

with that chip you may want to consider watercooling anyway
