I'm debating installing a dedicated thermal sensor for my AMD Tbird (as I understand it, a small one should be able to be mounted between the cooling fan and the processor, right next to the die?).

Any suggestions on where/what type to get, or the installation proces? This would likely be on an ASUS A7V133 (if I can ever get it to work!) board, which has a "power supply temp" header I can hopefully take advantage of.

i have an asus a7v rev1.02. my mate got a rev1, which didn't have an in-socket thermistor and therefore came with a thermal probe. he then upgraded and gave the thermal probe to me. my board also has the header you mentioned, and i have the probe sitting next to my die, taped to the processor substrate. it's very thin so it easily fits between the hsf and the processor without causing any trouble. don't know how accurate it is, though. it measure temps well over 10c lower than the in-socket thermistor reports. hope it's right... ;-)

try contacting asus about one. i saw some for sale at either www.overclockers.co.uk or www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk.. so try there as well.

hope you come right.

Proze: I think your thermistor between the cpu and h/f is right. I have an A7V, A7V133, and 2 KT7A-R's. I have tested the same cpu and cooling setup in all 4 boards. The 2 Abits agree and are about 10C or a little more under what is reported by the Asus boards. I don't like how Asus puts there temp sensor on the bottom of the socket at least on Abit you can bend it up to touch the cpu.

that'd be nice... :)
yeah, the asus thermistor is a smd thermistor, so it's pretty far from the actual cpu.. wish it was like the abit one.
