View Full Version : ThermoEngine with T'bird 1.2Ghz 266FSB
I've just bought a ThermoEngine Cooler w/ 7000rpm Delta Fan (63mmx63mmx58mm) for my T'bird 1.2Ghz 266FSB. I was wondering what sort of temperatures i would expect with this combination (also using Arctic Silver II Thermal Compound) when the CPU is idle/loaded @ 1200 and if i O/C to 1333-1400 ???

Using ThermoEngine w/ stock and YS Tech fan (I switch around) on my 1.3 T bird
currently running 1.45 1.77v ~48C under load this is with STOCK fan (so quiet! :) )
YS Tech drops it about 5C lower but is a bit too loud for my tastes
you should be getter better than that.
Going to burn in, I think I can reach 1.5 with stock
I have a borrowed ThermoEngine with a type T thermocouple embedded in the base and using it with my 1.0G/266 Tbird running 10x140 at 1.80Vcore. The temp running Prime95 Torture, with the cover off of my mid-tower was 40C using the YS-Tech fan off of my FOP-32. Compared to the fan on my regular HSF, I thought the YS-Tech fan was very quiet. Certainly more quiet than my 92mm case fans. I would recommend it if you have a cool computer room like me (currently 18C). If you operate in a warmer room, I would recommend an HSF with more "starch".

Hoot - That's a pretty good load temp. It's just 3 degrees warmer than the Swiftech temp you have at a much cheaper price. What would you recommend that has more "starch"?
Well, any of the copper based units that have been reviewed lately. The bottom line is the C/W rating. Anything at .25c/w or less would be what I consider an HSF with "starch".
The temp with my MC-462A was with the cover on. It runs about 3C more cool with the cover off. I'm fairly jaded where these things are concerned, but I gotta say the ThermoEngine is one piece of great design Engineering. Definitely "outside the 9 dots" compared to most conventional HSF designs. The Zalmans are another great piece of Engineering, and to a lesser degree, the Millenium Glaciator. The rest are small variations on an outdated theme.

Hoot - what sort of temperatures do you get running your swiftech? can u also include idle temps too?

Update on my Thermo Engine
1.5 gig
1.775v
34C idle
50-51 C under load (Prime 95)
stock fan
all I have to say it WOW! Everyone kept telling me the only way I would hit 1.5 gig was going delta but you konw what... I managed to get there and w/ alot less noise. Sure 51 C is a little warm but nothing to worry about IMHO.
Anyone else think 51 C's is too high for under load?
I think it is too warm, but that's just MHO. I won't let my CPU run above 42Cfor performance reasons.

Now, with the advent of warmer weather, My 10x145 @ 1.85Vcore is running closed case 22.5C idle and 37.5C Prime95 Torture. That is read off the Type K thermocouple mounted in the base of the Swiftech, sitting on top of the center of the core. Believe me, it took a lot of courage to drill a 1mm hole in my expensive MC-462A, but that way, I don't have to put up with the "finger waggers" regarding my in-socket thermistor readings, which just so happens to read within .4C of my thermocouple.

I am withdrawing my support for the ThermoEngine based upon a recent issue that has come to light. Read my monologue in Cooling

I have exact same sink and fan
my 1.2 (266) ran at 43c 100% load and about 35c normal use,but the delta 7000 makes so much noise i dumped it for the fan that came with the thermo engine, now my 1.2@1.3 is running at 48c 100% load and 40c'ish normal, gonna tweak my core volt tomorrow see if it'll run stable at 1.4 (10.5x133)
