View Full Version : Gameve thinks cheaper products are good substitutes.

Ok guys, last Monday I placed an order for a FIC 9500 Pro at Gameve. It showed up in stock at $160 (an incredible price). So I called Wednesday after no email notification of being charged or the item being shipped only to find out the item was out of stock. My account had been charged by this time. Anyway, I told them to go ahead and cancel the order so I could order a 9500 Pro elsewhere. Well, I placed my order at Newegg. A few hours later, Gameve sent me an email saying that I shouldn't worry - the item was being prepared for shipping and that my order had not been canceled. This despite me telling them to do so. I let it go, though, because I was psyched about getting a 9500 Pro for so cheap. I canceled my order at Newegg. I finally got the '9500 Pro' from Gameve today and what does it turn out to be? A Powercolor 9500 non-pro. I haven't tried to softmod it yet, and I don't know if they've tried to credit me the $25 difference between the two, but this is unacceptable. The packing slip even says 9500 Pro. I'm going to be calling these people up to see what the deal is - I wanted a 9500 Pro, not another non-pro.

well, this isn't a matter of you being stuck with the wrong card and asking them to credit the difference. This is a matter of you calling them up (call, don't e-mail) and telling them to ship you the correct product.
www.resellerratings.com and leave a negative rating if they don't act fast enough. I find that leaving a negative rating will usually get a vendor's attention (at least, those vendors who care about their reputation). But, don't use that first. Call them and try to get the situation fixed first.....all they need to do is pay you to ship the wrong card back, and they ship the correct card to you. I would simply tell them that if they can't do that, that I would expect a full refund PLUS the cost of shipping the wrong product back to them.
edit:
This shouldn't be them deliberately trying to rip you off.....reputable companies don't do that (from what i hear, gameve is fairly reputable). This was either a mistake, or one of the box-stuffers couldn't find a pro version and tossed that in instead....or the one you got had the wrong bar code on it. There are many possibilities, so don't automatically assume that they are trying to rip you off. You ARE correct in being angry with them, but don't instantly think that they are trying to rip you off. Just call them and tell them they sent you the wrong product, and you want the right one.

They have a decent resellerrating too...

I doubt they did it intentionally, and I'm sure they'll do something to 'make it right'.

I understand that they most likely are not trying to rip me off. Perhaps I was a bit harsh in my initial post, but I am angry with them. I'm going to call them this afternoon (I have to make a 2 hour drive before I can get to it).
Unfortunately they claim that the card I ordered is out of stock and will no longer be back in stock. That's why I was surprised when I received an email saying my order was shipping. I am still of the opinion that they should have contacted me to ask me if I wanted the order to go through AFTER I had called to cancel it.
The card they sent me is the Powercolor 9500 on their site, but the one they advertise is a Retail box version, while the one they sent is an OEM without any games or the box.
I'd have to push for a full refund and return shipping because there's no other card in that price range that I want. I'm just very disappointed and angry about this because I've been running a Radeon 32mb SDR for the past couple of weeks and it just can't keep up with BF1942.

Dispute the charges with your credit company. This doesnt sound like an honest error but more of a lets fill the order with whatever we have and hope they dont complain... If they subbed a higher price item no biggie right?
