I only have a palomino for now, but its pretty stable at fsb overclock.. I haven't bothered with the multiplier.. I wish I knew about the agp/pci lock and bought a nforce2 board, but hey, i have to stick with what I have..

Anyhow, I am not comfortable with overclocking the agp/pci bus, so I likely will not overclock until i get my t-bredB and set the fsb to 200 with a lower multiplier (shooting for 200x11)..

When I raise the fsb to 150, the pci/agp bus is underclocked at 30mhz (130/60).. Is this safe or just as bad as overclocking or worse? I would like to find a happy medium, but my memory will not run at 166mhz, so I can't raise the fsb there..

thanx for any info.

EDIT: oops, should have posted this in AMD cpu's.. sorry for any inconvenience.

Great cooling combo.

PC2100 RAM default is 133 with a /4 divider.
15x is maximum FSB for this ram (My PC2100 max is 152 FSB)

/5 divider only kicks in at 166 FSB and higher.
You will need at least PC2700 RAM to get FSB between 166 and 18x on average.

You will need better ram than PC2700

to get FSBs in the 200s. You can safely do this with nForce2 mobos or VIA mobos that have /6 divider.

I am not sure if I follow you, what do you mean by 15x and 18x, you mean cpu multi?

btw, my mobo's /5 divider kicks in at 150, so at 150 it is 150/30, at 166 its 166/33.. I've been able to run my palomino at under 150 no problem, but as I said, I don't like to overclock my pci/agp bus.. But at 150 it goes to 30 which is actually underclocking.. is this safe? and if it is safe, will my computer as a whole be slower at 150/30 then say 149/37 with the same multiplier?

15x means between 150 and 159
18x means between 180 and 189
I could have said 150ish.

I think it would only be underclocking with PC2700 RAM whose default is 166.

PC2100 ram cannot run in sync close to 160 FSB.

Low 150s FSB is the max for PC2100.

Is your mobo underclocking PC2100 at 151 FSB? Excellent question. Post in the mobo section then post back here, I'm interested too.

Running the PCI/AGP bus underclocked won't hurt anything. You will have slightly less performance is all. You really need better RAM. Most Asus mobos have the option of changing memory ratio I thought. Check to see if there is another lower ratio, like 4:3 or 3:2 or something. Actually, running the PCI slightly above default won't hurt anything. Usually most systems will handle the PCI bus running up to 37 MHz or so.

Yeah but the question, again, is this:
He says his mobo kicks in a /5 divider at 150 FSB.

What happens when PC2100 is run at 151 FSB, is it underclocked?

I have no idea.. I guess if I lock the memory at 133, it won't underclock, but if it is a ratio thing, then yes, it would be underclocked.. anyhow, I haven't found a "ratio" setting on my board, but I know it must be there.

/5 divider at 150 FSB on his motherboard does underclocked the ram it just sets the pci slots bus by that the VIA motherboard chipsets dont have ratio settings like the n-force2 least i dont think it does so at 150fsb his ram will be at 150fsb
