i am going to be purchasing the following equipment:

A-bit KT7 motherboard,
duron 800,
thermoengine heatsink and fan (with delta fan)
2 case fans.

please can you tell me what will i be able to overclock the chip to?......safely, without it burning out.

also, i do not want to in any way modify the motherboard.

please can you mail me with your suggestions to: sherbhachu@hotmail.com

I would get a better motherboard, an Abit KT7E :) which would allow for more fsb adjustment. I got my 800 Duron up to 1028 7.5x136 fsb. I can do 10.5x100 ok, but it definately runs faster at 1028mhz. With the motherboard you are getting, your fsb probably wont go above 105 or 110fsb.

I believe something around 1 Gig is realistic...
Do what Supraway told you,, get the other Mobo..
But Abit is great :)

Go here and read this on the KT7E-

Now this is where it gets interesting. The KT133E chipset is promoted and sold as a 100/200 Front Side Bus only chipset. After all, if it wasn't, how would it be any different then KT133A? Well either Abit has done something very innovative, or the KT133E chipset is natively one heck of an overclockable chipset. Our KT133E motherboard had no problem reaching the 147 Front Side Bus (7x147). How does this differ it from the KT133A chipset? Also with this overclocking ability it basically puts an end to the KT7 line as a viable product.

I hope to come home with one and a Duron 800 Sat after Comp show.
