I've dangling a bit with the coaxial out of late, in order to playback some 5.1 video.

I'got the coaxial out hooked up with my 5.1 receiver, and using winDVD for playback. But apparently something doesn't work right.

If WinDVD is set to analog (stereo) audio, there's no problem playing back sound, naturally only in Stereo. The second I hit the digital out switch, sound totally disappears.

The receiver DOES recognize the signal as 5.1, but the sound is totally goners.

Any ideas? what could be wrong?

Cheers, Flix

You sure you have the reciever plugged into the digital out, and not the analog? (would explain why you have analog, and not digital sound)

Its in digital all right, same as I use for my DVD player... works fine all right.. and it does receive the digital signal... (a large blue line-led lights up when receiving digital signals)

Check your speaker selections on the receiver. There should be various modes you can select for digital and analogue signal too. Check if it's in an analogue one.

Check the sound volume in Windows. Windows has a seperate option for SP/DIF out. Make sure it's not mute either.

I've been through all modes, but the Auto-Select seems to find its way just right onto 5.1...

As for volume, I've cranked it up to max on the puter, and half way to max on the stereo. Already at this level, my neighbors are in doubt whether a plane has crashed, once I hit the movie-box... so I don't dare take it higher just to see if its a low signal.
